« Rockies Rumors: Holliday, Fuentes, Torrealba | Main | Freddy Garcia To Audition Later This Month »
According to MLB.com's Joe Frisaro, the Marlins are looking to acquire a righthanded reliever and a veteran catcher. Frisaro says indications are that the Fish are "not serious" about Paul Lo Duca.
Possibilities at catcher include Paul Bako, Yorvit Torrealba, and Michael Barrett (in my estimation). Back in November, the Marlins had interest in Torrealba and Barrett.
Possible righty relievers: guys like David Weathers, Chad Bradford, LaTroy Hawkins, and Mike MacDougal. I don't see the Marlins chasing bigger fish like Huston Street and Jon Rauch. There are no reports indicating it, but I'd like to see the Fish go after Trevor Hoffman (an original Marlin).

Marlins fans please take one of our relievers (the Jays). We have 4 good lefties in Downs, Tallet, Ryan, and Carlson. Plus two expendable catchers in Barajas and Zaun.
Who's on the market from the Marlins? Mike Jacobs? He could be a 'good' future DH when Stairs is gone.

If the Jays can't continue their winning ways into late July and get back into contention, former Marlin Gregg Zaun could be available.
Happy Canada Day to everyone btw.

How about Ivan Rodriguez for some prospects?

Marlins fan here, they will not break the bank for anybody. Pudge will cost too many prospects. I like the idea of the Jays. Mike Jacobs is good trade bait especially for an AL team because his 1B fielding is below average and the Marlins have good prospects at that position.

I don't think Pudge will cost any team a dime. He's a bum and the Tigers would let him go for a bag of peanuts. The real question is, why would any team want the guy?

Gerald Laird? Please?

I don't understand why or how long they've gone with Treanor and Rabelo. Both are very capable backups, but to have gone half the season with them while being competitive is a surprise.
Zaun does seem like a good option for them.
In the mean time, i would really like to see them call up John Baker. Hitting very well at AAA and catching virtually every day.

I am less surprised that they have found a way to compete with 2 bleh catchers then I am that they found a way to compete with a horrible defense, and a just awful pitching staff. That said, I would be surprised if the fish win 75 games this year. They will fall off big time.

Pudge won't cost that much. I think the Tigers would part with him for a couple young arms.

A deal centered around a healthy Gerald Laird or one of Texas other catchers makes alot of sense. Texas isnt in win now mode, and the Marlins have serveral intriguing arms that are in the mid levels of the minors.
Laird is arbitration controled and the rest are still in prearbitration stages, so it should work well with the new stadium timeline.

Fish fans,
How 'bout Bradford, Ramon Hernandez (and the O's eat a hefty chunk of his salary. Mmmmmm...salary) and Daniel Cabrera for Logan Morrison and a pitching prospect or two (I don't know the Marlins' system too well). Helps you guys this year and...well...I'm a Morrison believer.

I agree Laird makes the most sense; but I expect a few teams will be in on him. Biggest trade chip I'd think for the Marlins might be McPhearson. As a DH for an AL team, McPhearson would have decent appeal I'd think.

Oh please, please trade for Hoffman. San Diego is destined to be in an increasingly awkward position with the guy trying to remain loyal to him and him blowing every third game.
This way he could go to Florida as old folks are apt to do and perhaps benefit from a change of scenery. And the Marlins can give us, say, Hanley Ramirez for him. Sounds great to me.

Hoffman to the marlins would be a sad day for padre fans in many ways, but really the best thing that could happen to us.
Lets say we can trade barrett and hoffman in a package get rid of both their salaries and get a mike jacobs and a prospect out of it.
clear up some room for free agency next year.
If we can dump maddux, giles, and hoffman all this year we will look real good in making a dent in the free agent market next year.

kenji johjima

Kenji Johjima, Yuni Betancourt, J.J. Putz for Dan Uggla & Rick VandenHurk.
They could move Hanley Ramirez to 2B, so he's less of a defensive liability.
Yuni's super cheap contract would balance Ramirez's hefty payday and give them a talented and young middle infield for years.

Insert Lopez into SS. His range is still good and the only reason he was moved to 2B was to cater to Betancourt. By moving him to SS, Beltre's range can compensate for any range lost to Yuni's departure.

Ramon Hernandez is a very good option. That guy has his home right here in south florida and would be nice for him play for the Marlins. He started slow but is getting better, June AVG was 273.
