Wasn't Alberto Gonzalez the Attorney General before he was a shortstop?

Dammit, you stole my joke.

As a Yankee fan, I'm not sure what to think of this trade. I thought AG was our SS of the future with Jeter being bumped-off after next year (first in New Yankee Stadium)? Tim, your thoughts? How does Nunez project?

Gonzalez is just a glove; I can't imagine the Yanks were ever going to run with him full-time at short.

As a Sox fan, even i can point out the ridiculousness of the comment above. Why the hell would the Yankees ever bump Derek Jeter off the team. The Yankees are so much in debt to Jeter as being the image of the Yankees, that if Jeter wanted to, he could play until hes 50 as a Yankee. Jeter is not going anywhere anytime soon, and no one in baseball will expect to ever see Jeter wear anything but the big NY on his hat.

oh yea, forgot that the yanks actually pay their players... couldn't resist jaja

Not off the team, off shortstop. Think Ripken.

where would they put Jeter? DH along with half of the team? 3b? Oh yea A-rods getting paid 300 million over there. 2nd Base? Cano kinda owns that spot. Outfield? How many outfielders can one team have?

That would just seem ridiculous. Jeter at this stage in his career will not move to first. You are not going to prolong his career by throwing him at 1b. Omar Vizquel is still playing SS and hes playing into his 40's.

Nah, Jeter will not be moving off SS for at least 3-5 more years.
As for this trade, at best Gonzalez would have been a utility guy that pinch runs and defensive replacement in the infield, he has never been able to hit well enough to start at any position nor does he project to.
This is pretty much the same kind of deal like the Tyler
Clippard to Nats for a relieve r deal last year. Yanks trading minor leaguers with no future on the team for some upside prospect that most likely will not pan out.
The pitcher is nothing special though. Plus fastball around 94-95, mediocore slider/changeup that are below average. I suspect he's just going to be a power arm guy that will be at best a middle reliever if they can get one of the other offerings to around average.

Dang! I didn't know the former Attorney General even played baseball! Let's hope he fibs a lot less as a baseball player as compared to when he was AG!

Nunez is 2-8 with a 4.85 ERA this year, and is a bit of an anomaly: though he's consistently stunk, the Nationals have been promoting him anyway.

Ernie Banks moved to 1b when he was 31. Just sayin'...
