Odds and Ends: Roberts, Ohman, Kotsay, Eyre

Rumor roundup...

  • ESPN's Buster Olney implies that another website backdates timestamps in an attempt to fake scoops.  I was following the Mark Teixeira rumors like a hawk; I gave the scoop to ESPN's Jayson Stark with an assist to MLB.com's Lyle Spencer.
  • Joe Christensen says Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts is not available.
  • MLB.com's Mark Bowman guesses Will Ohman will land with the Cardinals.  He also puts the odds of a Mark Kotsay deal at 50%.
  • With Mark Teixeira out of the picture, Diamondbacks GM Josh Byrnes doesn't expect to make any more trades.
  • Will Carroll says the Dodgers had a "passing discussion" with the Cubs about Scott Eyre and Ronny Cedeno.
  • Nothing cooking with the Royals.
  • Talked to Eddie Bajek, who is working on reverse-engineering the Elias formula.  He has A.J. Burnett on the Type A/Type B borderline.  Ivan Rodriguez and Edgar Renteria should both be Type As.

I'm not even an Orioles fan, but I really hope they trade B-Rob this winter at least and get a couple of young studs

Hmmm...seems no one on the Orioles is available.

I would love Ohman to go to Saint Louis. Then I could watch him get pounded in Wrigley from the other side.

re: Roberts and Sherrill

sucks. What the hell is Andy doing?! I guess the offers could suck, but it seems like he's got the same disease a lot of GMs not named Beane have contracted. The symptoms: delusions that their club has a shot at competing either this year or next. Wake up, McPhail! Stop bailing water and buy a new boat!

To get rid of Ronny Cedeno would be a dream come true.

Ohman for Pujols sounds about right. That would solidfy 1B for Atlanta, and make Kotchman expendable.

Do you think that Olney could be confused at the fact that the United States has different time zones?

For example, I am on the east coast and all of the posts on this site are listed as being in central time....so it looks like everything is being posted an hour ago when I view the time stamps.

Buster could be talking about this site for all we know.

Karena, you will get your dream soon enough. Even if Cedeno lasts the deadline, he won't be back next year. He is out of options and Lou does not like him.

Mile, being a Cub fan, I have seen Andy's tactics for 12 years. I guess his M.O. remains the same in dealing with other teams. We don't know who was offered what, so I can't come down on him 100%. But he has a way of doing things. Even if you don't like one teams offer, there are others. You mean to say he can't find a taker on Sherrill...Roberts...anyone? If Andy does not deal a couple of the players they can deal, O's fans should be really upset.

Olney is an [expletive]. He needs to report actual rumors and not just make stuff up, claim it's true, but say "it's not serious and probably won't get serious" to cover it up when it's debunked.

I don't think Olney was talking about MLBTR, we only try to be the source once in a blue moon. My guess would be SI.com or FOX Sports as their biggest competitors.

The Olney gripe was a good read. Some funny stuff in the comment section.

Thanks for the info Studio179.

Why would he bad mouth MLBTR? This place doesn't get scoops. All it does is take everybody else's stuff and combine it into one spot. Which works for me. I'd hate to have to look at all those different websites to find any interesting info.

I personally think that the Braves need to keep hold of Ohman. He and Gonzo are the only reliable lefties in the bullpen.

Anyone know why Josh Anderson isnt playing with the MLB club? last time i checked he was a better defender and than Blanco, not to mention he has just as much speed

studio- yup.

I'm not upset. Sherrill is a fine member of the O's bullpen. Its not like he is taking up so much payroll this year. Also he is under control for a few more seasons. Why not hold onto him until the offseason and maybe deal him to the Angels when they lose K-Rod? Roberts is fine here. And not many other guys on the team are worth much in the way of prospects. Maybe Huff. But no one seems to want to give up anything for him.
