Padres beat writer Corey Brock has the latest on the team's trade candidates.
- GM Kevin Towers recently told Greg Maddux which teams have expressed interest in him. The Professor will ponder his options over the break, since he controls his fate with a full no-trade clause. Possible suitors like the Cubs and Brewers may have backed off, I imagine.
- As expected, Randy Wolf is drawing interest.
- Tony Clark could be moved within a few days, with Arizona the rumored suitor.
- The Padres are only looking to move veterans, and want prospects in return.
Despite the Harden acquisition, I'd still like to see Maddux come back and finish his career as a Cub. If they can get him for some mid-level prospects and a utility type, why not? He'd be a great presence in the clubhouse, and let's face it, what Cub fan wouldn't rather see the name 'Maddux' in the pitching probables every 5th day than 'Marquis'. The only problem would be who to leave out of the playoff rotation...Lilly or Mad Dog?

You seriously think Greg Maddux would be left off a playoff rotation?

Cubs playoff roatation right now would be:
Zambrano
Harden
Dempster
Lilly
Sorry, (barring injury to one of those) Maddux does not make that rotation. The exception might be if they were playing a team in a huge park (like Petco) maybe you slide Maddux in for that round, and pitch him in the road game. But Lilly is your lone lefty, and he's almost guaranteed in.
I'd love to have Maddux back as #5 starter for the rest of the season, though!!! It would be downright silly.

I don't see the Cubs needing or wanting a back of the rotation type.
I could see the Pads packaging Tony Clark and Maddux to the D-Backs for prospects.
Potentialy Tony CLark and Wolf to the Yankees for prospects also.
One I have not heard of, is Tony Clark to the Rays for some veteran presence down the strecth. Lots of youngsters in TB, a solid clubhouse veteran would be nice.

suprised Khalil Greene isn't mentioned as being on the block for the Padres. He is having a terrible season and while his value couldn't be lower right now, the SS market is thin.
Given the thin SS market, Greene actually still has some value on potential alone, so it might be the time to sell on him.
