The only way the Sox are going to land Wilson is if they turn over Lugo. Considering hes hurt, I doubt it to happen.
Would anyone actually bite on Lugo?

The Bixler call up is to cover Sanchez it seems...there are several 1B options in PGH already between Mienkewicz and Pearce (Doumit in a pinch too).

I'd be very surprised if the Pirates would even take Lugo - and more importantly his contract ($10M for the next 2 years, plus a 3rd year vesting option) - back in the deal. (Of course, with Pittsburgh's past trade history, anything is possible!) Wilson's contract needs to be moved to clear salary room for a Bay extension, assuming he's staying put now.

I think Chris Gomez is an option at 1st at well. The team has plenty of options there... not an exciting option, but an option none-the-less.
Still hoping for a couple of trades though.

The sox wouldn't turn over lugo....he is hurt. They'd dump him somehow or let him ride the bench til someone does draw interest or wilson were to get hurt.....lowrie will prob be involved in the deal or any deal made involving big names. I'd love to see lowrie pull a pedroia but it will prob take a lil more time w/ this guy. I think the sox could pull a trigger on a deal for wilson a heck of a lot easier than it would be to pull one to get manny out. Unless u sweetened the pot filled w/ prospects and got pitts to bite, but they wouldnt and the sox won't so wilson it is...do it up

I think you answered your own question. Littlefield would have taken Lugo back and crowed about how he got a "major-league" ready player in return, but I think the current GM is looking further down the road.

I hope if the Pirates trade to the Sox they don't get ripped of because I'd hate to be mad at my second favorite team for ripping off my favorite team but i digress.
I think we could get a solid package from the Sox if we ship them Grabow and Wilson both under control through '09 I know the first name they ask for should be Bucholz I know we won't get him but it doesn't hurt to ask I would probably ask for Delcarmen too but that's just because I like him a lot. We obviously don't take Lugo. With the Pirates poor trade histoy it wouldn't surprise me if they did something stupid like trade Bay, Wilson and Grabow and get Manny back and offer to take his whole contract then let him go at the end of the year watch them get tricked into itand worse get tricked into throwing the Red Sox a prospect too lol.

They don't need to move Wilson's salary for a Bay extension. They are getting the $10 million from Littlefield's genius acquisition of Matt Morris off the books after this year, plus they just dealt Nady and Marte, so they will have plenty of room under their self-imposed cap to pay Bay.
However, if a team, like the Dodgers or Red Sox, is desperate for a SS and wants to send the Pirates someone like Matt Kemp, James Loney, Jed Lowrie or Manny Delcarmen, I hope Jack Wilson can pack his bags quickly, because they should pull the trigger on that type of deal in a heartbeat.

I'd forgotten about Morris. That said, Bay's extension will add on a good $12.5M per year to their payroll (figuring he goes for around $20M per year, which is not at all unlikely). That will probably eat up the $9M from Morris plus $3.5M from Nady, leaving the $2M from Marte for re-signing arbitration-eligibles and adding new players.

Respectfully disagreeing, that $20M per year for Bay seems way too high. Right now the only guys making that much are Giambi, Jeter and A-Rod. As well, Manny, Carlos Beltran and Ichiro are the only others above $17M, so I'd figure Bay in the $12-$14 range; he's already stated he wants to stay in Pittsburgh, and he seems like the kind of guy that enjoys working in relative anonymity rather than being the focal point in a big city.

Doumit, grabow, and wilson sent to boston for lowrie, masterson/hanson and one other not so hyped prospect? The sox have about what 7 different prospects that have been named in "rumors", I think the sox are losing it b/c of their prospects that they are afraid to put up....they have very few needs in and a lot of stock....they are not the rays where they need all these guys and after manny leaves and other contracts end they will replenish what little they would have to spend to get those current needs.

How about Grabow and Wilson for Lowrie and one other not so hyped prospect? If I'm the Pirates, the closest thing I have to an untouchable is Ryan Doumit; a fairly young, switch-hitting catcher with power under team control for three more years is a nice building block, not a trade piece.

I agree that $20 million is quite a bit pricey for Bay, my guess is it will be around $15 million a year will be the average for Bay. But I do believe that the Bucs need to move some more money before they could sign Bay to an extension. They already have a lot of money committed next year. They need to pay Morris $1 million dollar buyout still, and they have $26 million tied into Bay, Wilson, Sanchez, Snell and Capps. Then you figure that McLouth, Doumit, Maholm, and Duke are hitting their first Arb. year no longer making league minimum. Its hard to know exactly how much they will make but it will likely average out between $2-3 million per player. Then you have guys like LaRoche, J. Bautista, Yates, Grabow in the middle or end of their Arb years i'd conservativly figure, LaRoche $6.5-7.5 million, Bautista $3, Yates $2.5 and Grabow $3 million. Your talking about say $55 million dollars for only 13 players and their will be even less 'free money' in 2010 as all the players under contract have their salaries go up, Mclouth, Doumit and company get big bumps in their Arb. numbers and Capps and Bay are free agents and will need big contracts to sign them.

I really doubt Grabow or Wilson will be back next year. LaRoche is another possibility to be let go, as they could move Pearce to first. Capps is still arbitration eligible for 2010-2011 (they only bought out his first arb year with his current contract) and could be traded after next year to a team with a need for closer that is willing to overpay; a team like the Pirates, at least for now, does not need a top-flight closer since they don't figure to win many games.
There will be money available, but their better option is to trade Bay this offseason once teams determine their own needs for next year.

I'm really hoping for more trades. Grabow, Wilson, LaRoche and possibly Bay if we get the right amount in return. (Davis or Price with Brignac in the deal would be more then nice from the Rays for Bay)
I'm hoping that Huntington stays aggressive but still lands one or two more trades.

Yeah I agree that pitt needs more trades, Jack wilson is a very good defensive SS and not a bad bat i think Wilson and Grabow for Bucholz would be to much for pitt to trade Wilson. The best suitor i think for wilson would be the Dodgers, they have decent to good pitching and to make things better a valued SS would help Alot. So Pitts needs to play it out right and look to add a solid pitcher or a Solid Bat to replace Bay if need be.
Anybody know what Happened to Brad Elred.
