« Arroyo Hopes To Stay | Main | Ed Wade - GM Trade History »
According to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Rays have interest in reliever Tyler Walker. Walker made 20 appearances for the Rays back in '06, saving ten games. He then had Tommy John surgery and was released.
Walker, 32, has a solid 2.36 K/BB ratio this year but has been susceptible to the longball. He's earning $750K this year. It probably wouldn't take much to acquire him.

Besides shedding the 300k in salary, what's the point of trading T. walker for the Giants unless they package and Randy Winn, and minor prospect for a genuine true prospect?

I think a big point would be being able to fill that open spot that Walker creates with some young guy from AAA or AA to see if he can make it in the bigs. The Giants need to find out what they have in terms of young talent and this would be a good way to do it regardless of what they get back from Walker. Although, I too would like to see them package Winn.

Walker's no "Hitters Get Urges When They See" Matt Herges, but I wouldn't lose sleep if I saw him go. The guy is not my ideal 7th or 8th inning guy. Three blown saves and five losses in 43 games. That's an almost 20 Percent On No! factor.

in a perfect world, Walker (who I like to call Fat & Sweaty) would be packaged with Winn and a prospect like Sosa for an actual high level prospect.
in a decent world, F&S would be traded for a bucket of extra crispy...
in the world we live in, he should be DFA'd... as a giants fan who attends about half the home games, I would LOVE to see F&S somewhere else... he can take YABU (allows 98% of inherited runners to score but maintains a somewhat low era) with him...
the fact is, no one over 30 belongs on this team... except for rowand, which I'm not too jazzed about, but I can stomach
too much bitterness for a thursday morning?

No, I completely agree with you rotorobby. Although, I like Sosa and hope they keep him.

Cobweb -
I like Sosa too... but you have to deal from strength, right? He is the "biggest" name outside of MadBum and Alderson... If we could land a solid power prospect, the trigger should be pulled...
that's the kind of deal that needs to be made...
Now, It won't be easy, but there are players out there who fit the bill... i'd love to see sabean go after wes hodges or beau mills... both of whom are with cleveland i believe... the problem is, cleveland sucks too

The point in trading Fat N' Sweaty is to ensure no more 8th inning leads get blown in 10 pitches or less...
