I think Sabean has a lot of 'splaining to do.

Let's swap short stops!!! This is a great idea, don't know how Sabean can pass it up. Lugo will look really nice in a SF uni.

"The Giants aren't interested in a rental, even though they are in the race at five games out."
Good, they shouldn't be. They're not in the hunt. I always believe that just because the division sucks doesn't mean you're good.

Why would they not move Bengie or Randy...they are their best trade chips and aging vets at that

"and Jonathan Sanchez are off-limits."
...ahh, remember when they used to screw around with him with the whole back-n-forth to the BP/Minors/Rotation/Majors thing? This guy has a straight up nasty arm, and its nice to see it being given an actual, true chance… (thanks Lowry!)

I understand not trading Molina (yet), but why not Winn?

This stinks of stupidity! How do you expect to get anything worth having in return when your minor leagues is questionable, your best prospects have begun to look like AAAA players or they are just simply injured, BUT Sabean would be more than happy to trade you his three worst contracts owned by aging vets who have limited to ZERO upside... Anyone with a lick of sense knows that he'd have to package one of those three pitchers with two of those available players to get a deal done as Durham and Vizquel would be hard to trade a couple low level prospects for let alone something of consequence and Aurilia is like the A-Rod contract of bench players, not very likely he gets moved either! Obviously Sabean never heard the common phrase, "you have to give to get!"

Guru ... completely agree. If you aren't willing to give up anything what do you expect to receive? Sabean is a moron. He is wasting valuable years with Cain and Lincecum. It's time to rebuild NOW.

wow ummm what part of Fred Lewis and John Bowker are AAAA players??

Agree with bjguess, Sabean is a moron for wasting time with Cain and Lincecum. But NorCal is right who is a AAAA player? I mean Denker and Horowitz are but they aren't in the Giants long-term plans. Cain, Lincecum, and Sanchez, don't think so. All labeled untouchable. Fred Lewis, John Bowker, Nate Sheirholtz,(don't know how to spell) those guys will all be decent or above average Major Leaguers.
With Buster Posey, Madison Bumgarner, Tim Alderson, Conor Gillaspie, Rafael Rodrigeuz,(reportedley reached an agreement with the Giants) Wendell Fairley, Pablo Sandolvar(who moved to 3B with the Giants drafting of Posey), all on the way, I don't think you can say these guys are AAAA players either.

BaseballGuru stinks of stupidity if he thinks it makes sense to "package one of those three pitchers [Cain, Lincecum, Sanchez] with two of those available players [Durham, Vizquel, Aurilia]" just to unload a bad contract. You don't give to get stupid in return. You keep your young arms, don't sign bad contracts, and sign a bat in the off-season if you can't deal a pricey vet for a long-shot prospect now. The Giants' farm system and player development strategy got exponentially better this year (that's a big word for "like, a lot") so anyone who talks too much smack about where this team is going risks looking very stoopid come 2010. If the Giants deal any ace arms, it'd be an Alderson or a Bumgarner, and then they'd have to get a quality bat in return.

Finally, a voice of reason emerges from this clutter of madness, emotionality, and ignorance. "The Management" has got it right. The Giants would be insane to trade Lincecum, Sanchez, or Cain for the sake of unloading a bad contract. In fact, they'd be crazy to trade any of those arms, period. You must remember that the Giants aren't dealing with Oakland A's style finances here--they can afford to sign their better players. The Giants have acquired some decent prospects who currently play in the low minor leagues. The best chance to deal for an impact player, assuming they ever get into "buyer" mode, would be when teams become desperate enough to believe that guys like Bumgarner, Alderson, and Sandoval are the real deal. The Giants high level prospects (Bowker, Lewis, Romo) need to finish strong this season to restore some good faith around the league in this organization's ability to develop players. I'm sick of other organizations walking away from even discussing a blockbuster deal unless the "Big 3" (Cain, Lincecum, and Sanchez) are involved. Until some of these guys start proving themselves in the majors, the Giants will constantly be left out in the cold in trades involving players like Miguel Cabrera last winter, for there is no way Sabean will trade one of his best three players when he sees other clubs landing big time talent solely through giving up prospects.

Sabean is rebuilding fine; i just hope fans aren't too blind to notice. Tons of pitching up already, with Alderson, Bumgarner, Pucetos, Sosa, et al a few yrs away. Let's be realistic: if 2 or 3 of these pitchers develop as they should, that's great.
Concerning offense, it's all located in A-ball which is not good. But nonetheless, there is a lot of young talent coming through the ranks. Again, between Noonan, Villalona, Sanchez, et al if 2 or 3 develop as predicted that is great (great by the standards of baseball history)
