Stark's Latest: Eyre, Sherrill

ESPN's Jayson Stark has been burning up the phone lines today.  New blog posts can be found here and here.

  • Brian Fuentes and Damaso Marte are off the market, but lefty relievers remain plentiful.  The Cubs would like to move Scott Eyre, perhaps to an AL club like the Rays, Red Sox, or Tigers.  Eyre is in the last year of a three-year contract and can block trades to ten clubs.
  • The Orioles would like to pry a young shortstop loose if they are to trade George SherrillErick Aybar, Maicer Izturis, and Jason Donald are names of interest, but the Angels and Phillies aren't biting.

How about Eyre and Cedeno for Coco Crisp?

how about no

Why do so many ppl keep mentioning the Cubs should get Coco Crisp? He's having a pretty crappy year. As things stand, the Cubs would be better off with Johnson/Edmonds.

The Orioles need a SS , and the Cubs need a lefty that can get people out, how about Cedeno and Eyre for Sherrill?

How about the Cubs trading their 3rd base coach to get somebody who can actually see and won't wave guys in who clearly aren't going to make it? There's aggressive baserunning and DUMB baserunning.

I would think Gillick would be willing to part with Donald for Sherrill. George controllable for an additional 3 years. Maybe teams don't see that as a positive though, with the inconsistent nature of relief pitching

Good 'ole Bob "Worthless" Howry did it again tonight. Hope you were watching, Jim Hendry. Hey Jim, you still sticking to your guns about the Cubs bullpen being in good condition? Nothing like having your offense struggle to come back from a deficit, only to have the bullpen A-Holes come in and negate the whole thing.

Hey, how about also trading the Cubs trainer and/or team doctor. Kerry Wood has had a blister since a week before the All Star Game, and it hasn't gone away yet??? Great job, guys!

bcaine,
You obviously don't understand what the Orioles are looking for. Why on earth would the Orioles want Cedeno??? IF they trade Sherrill, they'd want a shortstop with actual potential to be a major league player. Plus Eyre is worthless to the Orioles. That suggestion is either a joke or should be.

IF Sherrill gets traded it will be to the Phillies for Donald+ or to the Cardinals for a package including Kozma. Unless, somehow inexplicably, the Dodgers get involved.

''Orioles want Cedeno??? IF they trade Sherrill, they'd want a shortstop with actual potential to be a major league player.''

Cedeno has potential he is only 24.

I called into WSCR the other day with this trade idea:

George Sherrill and Brian Roberts

for

Jeff Samardzija, Sean Marshall, & Ronny Cedeno.

Is that enough to get it done?

DeRosa goes to right. Fukudome goes to center.

Sherrill/Marmol become out setups.

Samardzija may seem like a steep price to pay but in the words of Apollo Creed, "There is no tomorrow!, There is no tomorrow!, There is no tomorrow!"

I don't think we need Sherrill & Roberts to 'finish the job'. We have the tools to win it all right now. We just have to stay on track with everybody's capabilities.

And if we need more help, our farm system may be the answer. Look at what was hiding down there with Samardzija. Are there more of 'him' down there waiting to be discovered?
