« The Shortstop Market Revisited | Main | Manny Drama »
Jon Paul Morosi has a new name to add to the reliever market: Fernando Rodney of the Tigers. He says the Tigers "appear willing to include Rodney in trade offers."
Rodney, 31, has a 7.71 ERA in ten appearances this year. His season began in June due to shoulder tendinitis. He dealt with the same injury last year, but surgery was deemed unnecessary. Rodney is averaging 93.8 mph with his fastball this year, right in line with previous years. He'll be arbitration-eligible after this season and should hit free agency after the '09 season.

Do the Tigers want Mike Timlin? I won't even mention Lugo, obviously they do.

id do that trade. three way deal:
tigers get: timlin, lugo and a young arm like bowden
Rangers get: renteria and another young arm like a pauley from the sox
Red sox get: Young, and not rodney but Zumaya.

I created an account just to tell you that there would be absolutely no way the Tigers would give up Zumaya for that package.

Yeah, no way. Rodney is on the block because Freddy Dolsi has been pitching well, not because Rodney has been doing bad.
Rodney struggled out of the gate, but has settled down.
Tigers aren't "trying to get rid of him" as much as they are "including him" in deals.

hey just saying you get rid of renteria. we give bowden who could possibly end up being your number one ahead of verlander given a few years
Posted by: gmac | July 17, 2008 at 03:35 PM
YES I WOULD DO THAT DEAL

hey joelcards. go look at what renteria is doing right now. he makes lugo look like a prize. ill throw crisp to detroit too.

The Yankees could use Rodney. Their bullpen is horrible, and Fernando would help. How about a package of Rodney for either Matsui or Damon?
He could also be used in a Pudge package. Trade Ivan Rodriguez and Fernando Rodney to the Marlins for some prospects. I would trade them straight up for Maybin back, but I don't know if the Marlins would.

NO on Maybin, or even Miller. They were given up for a reason. And I'm really glad gmac isn't the Tigers gm, sounds like a sox fan to me. Renteria and lugo are the same useless guy at this point, but at least I got a good laugh at that proposal. Both need to be jettisoned off of their respective teams. Matsui or Damon are both over the hill, so hopefully Dombrowski doesn't do any more deals like that. The Tigers need to get younger. Bowden in front of Verlander? NO.
Honestly, I'd trade Rodney for 10 bats and a bucket of balls just so I could get something usable in return (better than players that land on the DL). Enough humor.
Rodney is bad, but people fall in love with 97mph on the gun. He has a great changeup, which he renders useless with poor command. Unfortunately the Tigers LOVE this guy as much as I can't stand him. Maybe he just needs a change of scenery to get his head back on straight.
I don't know every single player in the league, but I personally would package Rodney, Robertson, and Renteria (and eat his salary) for a GOOD solid ML reliever and a good pitching prospect in AA or High A. Not sure if the Giants would give up Hinshaw and Jesse English (A prospect) but that would be a deal I'd do.

im not saying it would go down. but i would teke renteria back over lugo any day. bowden will be one of the best pitchers in the league in 5 years. and why would the giants want to wreck there rebuilding for rodney, robertson, and renteria? what is that 20 million for a guy who they have for less than a mill? who is coming up with the rediculous proposals now? atleast timlin is a proven winner as he has helped the sox win two championships
Posted by: gmac | July 18, 2008 at 01:43 PM
you gotta be kidding me. Timlin is old and set to retire. I said the Tigers need to get younger. You missed the part where I said I'd eat Edgar's salary (who is a better hitter than Vizquel whom the Giants are trying to get rid of. Edgar would give them time to let their prospects get better. They signed Barry Zit-o for well over a hundred million. Robertson is also left handed and better than Zito. And he Barry hasn't turned the corner. So that's a more offensive shortstop, Rodney is a reliever that needs a change of scenery. Most ML executives seem to think he has a bright future. If he could control that fastball and gain confidence then he will be good. Just not in Detroit. And Robertson is a lefty to replace the left arm the Giants would lose (and he's better than Zito for his prive-tag. At least he gets 7 innings deep into games). So that's 3 ML-level players for a lefty that pitches an inning at most and a single-A pitcher. Not nearly as ridiculous as giving the Red Sox our future closer for a washed up old man and loogie.
And Bowden better throw high-90's consistenly with a GREAT breaking ball and good changeup, or else he WILL NOT be better than Verlander.
You also missed where I said "I'm not sure the Giants would do this." But Brian Sabean has a history of making stupid moves. Hence, I used the Giants as an example. I noticed in your "trade" proposal that the only team getting better was the sox. At least mine would improve both sides. Hell, I'd take Taschner instead of Hinshaw if it came down to that. Wreck the Giants' rebuilding? Please, they have a stockpile of arms. They need bats.
Honestly dude, you're stupid. So shut up. Past this point you aren't worth the time.
