Tim Brown's Latest: Peralta, McPherson, Putz

Yahoo's Tim Brown posted a new column this evening.

  • The Nationals got an OK return for Jon Rauch, acquiring second baseman Emilio Bonifacio.  That could set the pace for reasonable reliever prices.
  • The Indians are listening on Casey Blake, Paul Byrd, and Jamey Carroll, as you know.  Jhonny Peralta isn't off-limits either.
  • Here's a new name of interest for the Dodgers: Marlins minor league third baseman Dallas McPherson.  He'll be 28 soon, and carries a .287/.400/.650 line with 32 home runs in 314 Triple A at-bats.  This could be the second time McPherson blasts 40 home runs in a minor league season.
  • The Red Sox inquired on J.J. Putz, but the Mariners say he's not available.

Peralta may not be off limits, but it's gonna take an awful lot to get him. Barfield has a long way to go to become a major league hitter, and the Indians wouldn't just insert him in an infield and lose Peralta's bat for nothing. If Barfield didn't work out, they would have nothing to put in his place, I can't imagine Josh Rodriguez would be ready next year.

Plus why would the Indians go with an infield of Marte, Cabrera, Barfield, and Garko? That has the potential to be the worst hitting infield in all of baseball.

Like I said, if somebody wants him, they better pony up.

Well I don't know what the Indians are waiting on for Blake the rumors on the radio here is the Mets offered
Dillon Gee Pitcher and 1 other prospect thought to be either Greg Veloz 2b/
Francisco Pena catcher .

I'm starting to think that there is no foundation to this rumor cause I would have thought the Indians would pull the trigger on that trade right away . I don't see the Rays offering a better deal than this .

According to Shapiro and Wedge Johnny Peralta is NOT available .

Unless the Dodgers want to through something together that the Tribe couldn't refuse like LaRoche / McDonald and Hu . Since Peralta is sined for the next 3 season last season tops out at 5 mil so a team would really have to package 3 very good prospects just to get the Indians talking .

The Dodgers if they were interested in Jeremy Carroll could get him for McDonald straight up Carroll is only making 1 mil this year and is signed next season for 2 Mil

Paul Byrd - hearing The Braves / White Sox and maybe the Mets are the interested teams , Don't see the Tribe trading to the White Sox.

Here is a interesting stat

Casey Blake leads all major league hitters with road RBI's

Would also like to see Dellucci get cut , I don't see a team even giving up cash or the player to be named later for this stiff.

Ryan ( I can only hit the single ) Garko could go in a package .

The Indians still have way to many hitters in the line up batting under 250 .

Dellucci / Marte / Gutierrez / it really hurts when Wedge plays them all on the same day .

"The Dodgers if they were interested in Jeremy Carroll could get him for McDonald straight up Carroll is only making 1 mil this year and is signed next season for 2 Mil"

I'm assuming you meant 2B Jamey Carroll. And WHAT?!? Why would the Dodgers give up a top pitching prospect in McDonald for a journeyman backup second baseman in Carroll. That's obscene.

Scribble's right, there's no chance of landing McDonald. It would be a great deal, but highly unlikely.

I do think that Garko has a shot at being traded though. Maybe that would open up a spot for LaPorta at 1st and Crowe in the OF. Or do they keep LaPorta in the OF and eventually give the 1B job to Beau Mills? It will be interesting to see what they eventually do.

BTW as I type Wedge decided it would be a good idea to pinch hit David Dellucci and his .220 AVG and 1-10 as a pinch hitter against K-Rod. Obviously, results in a K.

On the McPherson thing - He wouldn't be a bad pick up for the Dodgers, though the price would have to be right, especially seeing that the Dodgers have already been crippled by one back injury. He would definately satisfy a need for left-handed power, though he never really proved himself at the MLB level with the Angels and has a strong penchant to strikeout.

"The Dodgers if they were interested in Jeremy Carroll could get him for McDonald straight up Carroll is only making 1 mil this year and is signed next season for 2 Mil"

You are joking, right? A 34 year old 2B who's only good quality if consistent contact and patience for their number 1 RHP prospect? On a team that is already playing Jeff Kent $9 million a year? Yeesh.

Carroll on his own is worth little more than Angel Berroa and some low level prospect. The only reason he was to be included in the Sabathia deal was the loss of a bench presence with LaRoche.

"Scribble's right, there's no chance of landing McDonald. It would be a great deal, but highly unlikely."

The only chance they ever had at him was with a Sabathia deal.
