| Marlins Pushing For Laird »
By Tim Dierkes [July 31, 2008 at 11:07am CST]
La Velle E. Neal III and Joe Christensen of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune have the latest Twins buzz.
- The Twins would like to trade Boof Bonser to make room for Francisco Liriano. The Giants and Rangers might be interested.
- Targets for the Twins: relief help, third base, and second base.
- Talks for Adrian Beltre are not dead. The Mariners are eyeing Nick Blackburn, Scott Baker, Kevin Slowey, Glen Perkins, and Denard Span. The Twins aren't biting. Sounds like the Mariners want a premium arm for Beltre from the Twins or Giants, but those teams see it as more of a salary dump.
- The Twins asked about Brian Roberts but couldn't get anywhere.
- The Rays might be looking at Craig Monroe as a bench option.
why would the giants want more pitching? they need hitting.

Maybe the Braves get in on Bonser? At this point we need warm bodies for the rotation.

Hey Tim any news on Will Ohman rumors havent heard much about him.

Two things...
Is there any possibility that the Ms would consider Bonser? If the Twins are looking to move him, and the Ms want a starter, Bonser may be the best they can get. Add him with Craig Monroe and maybe that gets Ibanez in?
Another thing, why are the Twins so content on keeping Livan Hernandez in their rotation?

I would like the braves to get Baker or Slowey but Bonser might not be a bad buy low if the price wasnt to bad.

I'm hoping they are able to get rid of Livan and Boof today, and get Liriano in the rotation. I'm fine to get Aurilia for Boof if it can happen. Need a guy with versatility and that can play 2nd. NOT a fan of Punto playing everyday.

TIM: Howard Sinker of the same publication (well, their website at least) believes trade talkes for Brian Roberts may still be alive.
X-FACTOR: The Twins believe that Livan is teaching the young guys a lot. Kevin Slowey seems to love the guy, always singing his praises. Livan never gets rattled -- whether he gives up 0 runs (okay, that doesn't happen) or 6 runs, he has the same demeanor on the mound, and Gardy and pitching coach Rick Anderson want to teach them that.

thedeuce,
Buy low? You're funny.
X-Factor,
Twins don't need OFer.
The Twins need to accept any deal that the Giants/Rangers offer. They also need to lose Perkins + Mulvey/someone for Beltre.

Mr. Walz,
I don't mind Punto playing 2B everyday when he is hitting like he has done well this year. I love his glove in the field which we will definitely miss with Aurillia. However, for how much I like Punto, Aurillia would be a good guy to get back for Bonser if just to get rid of Bonser.
joeiscool,
I think you're exactly right. Livan is a huge veteran presence whether we like it or not. If you lose Perkins for Beltre, I wouldn't be upset at Hernandez pitching every 5 days.

Howard Sinker?!?!?! That guy has NO sources and his blog should be considered nothing more than pure entertainment.
Bonser is a good buy low guy for a team like the Rangers...the Twins have lost a lot of value on Boof, so it will be disappointing if they trade him.
Three years ago Juan Rincon was a premiere set-up man and the Twins ended up getting nothing for him. The Twins need to be a little more proactive sometimes.

Howard's point was something like "All I've read is that trade talks are still on-going," not that he had any sources telling him that.

Howard Sinker also says that a Jason Bay deal is in the works with the Twins. He said, "Do I give them Span, Slowey and their choice of Kubel, Young or Cuddyer for Bay? I think so. Do you?"
TC1991,
Man, I'd love the Twins to be more proactive, but you're not going to get much for Bonser/Rincon anyway. When Rincon was the premiere set-up man, it would have been stupid for the Twins to trade him.

joeiscool12,
I wouldn't doubt that the Roberts trade is still on. I'd think that Justin Morneau for Alex Rodriguez, Philip Hughes, Robinson Cano and Manny Ramirez is a possibility until 3pm. ;)
Posted by: Twings Legacy | July 31, 2008 at 11:53 AM
Twings,
You really think that's all we could get for Morneau?
Posted by: joeiscool12 | July 31, 2008 at 12:00 PM
I propose that the Giants send Bengie Molina to the White Sox for AJ Pierzynski and then turn around and deal him to the Twins for Boof Bonser, Francisco Liriano and Joe Nathan.
Any takers?

Fine, throw in Jeter and I think we got it.

Boof Bonzer? So, Biff Bowwowwow isn't available?

I really hate the sound of the Roberts thing. I don't really think the Twins match up well, prospect-wise, but the post makes it sound like the O's are shut down to any talks regarding their second baseman and I think that's a mistake. They should be listening to anything.
Now, that said, I really don't know who the Twins could offer that would make the deal worth it... Revere looks awesome, but we've got a pretty awesome young CF already and Revere is doing his damage at Low A; long way to go.
Delmon could play left, but he seems to have regressed this year and I'm beginning to wonder if he'll ever 'get it.' All of the better starters in the system seem to be up with the big league team...or struggling, and Liriano ain't goin' anywhere, so...who?
Sadly, I think this deadline is going to pass without the O's making a single move. McPhail is starting to piss me off.

Just to note, to Twings Legacy specifically...I goofed. I meant Beltre, not Ibanez. On my blog I've had a lot of stuff about Ibanez and just messed up... :(
Regardless, nothing went down with either Ibanez OR Beltre, oh well.
