Paul Konerko is coming off the DL. To make room for him, the White Sox decided to designate utility man Pablo Ozuna for assignment. Juan Uribe's spot is safe for now.
Ozuna, 33, hit .281/.313/.328 in 69 plate appearances this year. Ozuna had success in '06, but fractured his fibula in May of '07 and hasn't done much since.

The only logical explanation for having Juan Uribe still on the roster is that he has pictures of Ozzie Guillen and Kenny Williams in compromising positions.

How does the batting order shape up now that PK is back? I don't see him batting higher than 6th in the lineup after OC, AJ, Quentin, Dye and Thome. 7-8-9 would be Swisher, Crede, Ramirez.

Omega,
Although not ideal, I think that becuase Uribe can play 3B, SS and 2B he is more valuable. He's also been hitting off the bench. With Ozuna losing a step (or two) after his injury, and not playing very good D, I think this is the right move. Of course, they could have sent Russell down and gone with 11 pitchers, but then Uribe would still be on the roster.

Omega,
I think Uribe's ability to play 3B, 2B and SS made keeping him the logical choice over Ozuna. Ozuna has lost a step (or two) anyways, and Wise is now your speed off the bench. Of course, the Sox could have kept both by sending down Russell and going with 11 pitchers.

Sorry for the dup. But the original didn't show up at first.

I think the defensive difference is minimal. Ozuna was around because he hit CC and Santana well. There will be other lefties in the AL. My concern is, who will hit them in place of Pablo?

You're right in that they now have limited options off the bench to face lefties. Toby Hall is the only one who really hits them (Anderson's avg. vs. lefties sucks, although when he has hit them, he has taken them deep).

I am truly sad to see Pablo go; he will be sorely missed. And another part of the '05 team is gone.
Anyone know if the dodgers want Uribe for SS help? haha
