« Tejada To Skip Winter Ball, Look For Extension | Main | Week In Review: 8/24 - 8/30 »
It's official: The Diamondbacks have acquired Blue Jays shortstop David Eckstein in exchange for minor league pitcher Chad Beck, according to MLB.com.
Eckstein has posted a respectable line of .273/.352/.355 this season over 75 games with Toronto.
Rotoworld sees Beck, 23, as a long shot to make it to the majors as starter, but feels he can reach the big-league level as a reliever. Beck has had success at both Class-A levels this season. He posted a 2.04 ERA with South Bend, and after being promoted to High-A Visalia, struggled as a starter but has posted a very nice 1.37 ERA as a reliever for the club.

This brings the D-backs scrappiness levels to new heights!

Angel fan here... bumming hard! WIll always love Eck, and the circumstances were right to bring him back. Would have been a great addition for the post season run. Hope they lost out because Toronto didn't want to deal within the AL, and not because Reagins got outbid.

Solid Pick-Up for the Dbacks.

This was a horrible move by the Jays.
Eckstein for a minor league pitcher who isn't likely to become a starter?
What is this?
Eckstein had a great game today, and he will be missed by the Jays for his great attitude in the clubhouse, his unending hustle, his unwavering support of Gaston's decisions regarding his playing time, and of course, his love for the game.
Of course, one month of Eckstein isn't as good as a prospect.

Ummm
What do you think you are going to get for an average player, with one month left on his contract?
What do you expect to get when every team in the league knows he's a surplus and isn't playing anyways.
Is a prospect only valuable if he can become a starter? So if he's a lights out bullpen arm, it's a waste?
I think everyone in baseball will say it was a good move for the Jays, they should be happy with what they got.

Whoa, the Jays have already drafted him in the past? Sounds like another one of JP's famous "we've always liked the guy" move.
