I like Taveras, but the Rox desperately need to make room for Spilbourghs in the lineup. It will be a loss of speed for sure, but with the type of big bats they have its more important to have higher OBP. Holliday's got an obscene amount of 1 run HRs.

Willy's OBP is .312 which just doesn't cut it for a lead-off hitter. Spilborghs might not have the range in center, but at least he can provide quality ABs.

How exactly is Tavares a good fit for the Nats? They already have a logjam next year if they actually resign Willy Harris like they wanted. They'll have Harris, Milledge, Dukes, Kearnes, Pena, and Langerhans.

Taveras is essentially Juan Pierre with a lower BA and a much better arm. There is some value there, because his speed is virtually indefensible, but he really needs to stop striking out like a power hitter to truly become valuable.

Al Reyes probably signed with the Mets over the other team because he has the chance to close.

Taveras' chances of being a National come next year
If Bowden is still GM: 50/50
If Bowden is not GM: <1%

For real. And why would you move Lastings out of CF? His glove and bat both play much better there.
