5:49pm: Disappointing development for the Royals - Hosmer cannot play until the grievance is resolved. The hearing takes place September 10th, so he won't miss too much time.
9:08am: Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette provides his analysis of the Pedro Alvarez situation. How much of this is due to the rivalry between Pirates team president Frank Coonelly and agent Scott Boras? Is Alvarez making a mistake by letting this drag on? Peter Gammons blames Bud Selig, Don Fehr, and Boras for this mess.
Kovacevic does not believe Alvarez will be eligible to return to college in the fall. Independent ball would be the most likely path, if his contract with the Pirates does not stand. Meanwhile, the Royals are trying to keep Eric Hosmer out of the crossfire.

Will someone shoot Boras already?

If the arbitrator nullifies BOTH contracts (Alvarez and Hosmer), Hosmer has a viable lawsuit against Scott Boras. Conflict of interest 101: breach of fiduciary duty. Boras only wants to undermine the midnight deadline system for his own future enrichment: he doesn't care about Hosmer, Alvarez or any other client.

Considering Hosmer has only played in a few games so far and the minor league season is almost over, missing 10 days is a big chunk of his season.

what a greedy jerk. too bad the punks signed with him.

Would the Royals have a legal right to sue the Pirates? I was under the impression that it would be considering "tampering" to mention another team’s player, and Connelly definitely did that. I also think that this could be the end of the drafting system as we know it. I think set signing bonuses will be established by the 2009 draft. This would reduce the amateur players need for an "agent", and would stick it to Boras where it counts (in his pocket book).

I think that Selig is the one that brought up Hosmers name not the Pirates. The Pirates would have no way of knowing when Hosmer's contract was submitted. Coonley mentioned it yes but someone would have had to of said it first because how would he know or why would he care about Hosmer unless someone brought this to his attention. Royals fans don't worry this will all die out. The commish himself is backing the Pirates so I don't see Boras and Alvarez having a chance to win this grievance.

Nothing like one horrible team screwing another.
Thanks Pittsburg.
If we had a car wash in KC and raised $200,000 would you sign the guy already?

P.S. BucSox I think you're wrong. In the article I read the Pirates GM said that if Alvarez' contract wasn't valid, neither was Hosmer's.
Then the league stepped in.

The point I'm making is that there is no way our GM could know what time Hosmer's deal was submitted without someone from the commishioner's office telling him.
No one is screwing over KC except Scott Boras and it's really not screwing you. Think about if the situation was reversed would you want to renegotiate a contract with a guy that already agreed to one but later finds out someone is getting more than him so he decides that he wants more money all of the sudden.
PS you spelled Pittsburgh wrong.

Thanks for clarifying your point...include the spelling error.
