Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News has a rumor this morning:
A New York Mets official is following the Giants and has submitted a recommendation to acquire Rich Aurilia. The Brooklyn native is likely one of the first names the Giants submitted through waivers; if so, he would clear on Tuesday.
Aurilia has about $1.5MM left on his contract this year; he's hitting .281/.334/.421 in 308 plate appearances. He's a righthanded hitter who has handled southpaws well. He'd be a fine platoon partner for Carlos Delgado, and he could also dabble at the other infield positions as needed. The Giants would probably be happy just with salary relief.

Delgado has been tearing it up. He had a ridiculous July. Unless Aurilia can play OF, don't see this being much of a help. Maybe they're just getting him b/c he's from NY.

a backup at all 4 infield positions with solid (not great) defence and some pop... He'd be a good fit on ANY contending team.

I agree with icedrake and with putmeincoach. Aurilia seems strange because Delgado is hot right now, and Wright and Reyes never get days off. But then again, a versatile veteran IF who can swing the stick never hurt anybody. He might be able to help the Mets from beating themselves, which they seem to do from time to time.

Would be an excellent move for the Mets. He provides veteran leadership, is a brooklyn native, probably is used to the hype in NY , can play all four infield positions and he still has some POP

Aurilia is a career 1.417 OPS against Cole Hamels.

He has no position to play. Delgado is raking. The 2B subs have filled in well and Castillo is coming back shortly (although I wouldn't mind him staying on the DL for 3 more years). He'll probably get 1 start at 3rd the rest of the year. I doubt he has the range to play short. He's never played the OF in his entire career which is where the Mets need help.

Well, It wont hurt the Mets to get this guy. Delgado wont be hitting this good for the rest of the season so he could provide back up if he starts slumping. but it doesnt matter, the Phils got the division and the only way the Mets could get it is to get relief help. Seriously, their bullpen sucks.

"Seriously, their bullpen sucks."
People said that about the Phillies' bullpen last year.
