Interesting but somewhat predictable given market sizes and number of teams.
New York 11.8% - Yanks, Mets
California 10.9% - Angels, Dodgers, A's, Padres, Giants
Illinois 10.8% - Cubs, White Sox
Pennsylvania 6.4% - Phillies, Pirates
New Jersey 5.4% - South Jers. Phillies, North Mets & Yanks
Massachusetts 4.6% - Red Sox
Where you at Nats fans??

this explains so much ...
Posted by: bjsguess | August 04, 2008 at 07:22 PM
I bet you anything that I am that .6% from Oregon.
Posted by: frozenrope | August 04, 2008 at 08:00 PM
As one of your Hoosier readers and a White Sox die-hard, I think this site actually has comparatively little bias given the dominance of readers from New York and California.
Keep up the good work.

How much of a % does one reader from Down Under Sydney, Australia represent?
Posted by: Batmann | August 04, 2008 at 08:40 PM
I seriously doubt Illinois is that high.
Posted by: McGowan | August 04, 2008 at 09:07 PM
Why wouldn't Illinois be that high? Tim resides in Chicagoland, and I don't think it's too improbable that he have a decent sized following within his home state.
Besides, not only does Illinois lay claim to the Cubs and White Sox, but a LARGE portion of southern IL is pro-Cardinals.

Keep in mind that this is based on IP address location; I suspect that skews the numbers a bit. (I'm in MD, but my employer is based in MN and my IP shows up there, and it used to show up as IL.)
Cable/DSL home ISPs should be accurate, tho.

New Hampshire here!!

Nice showing for NJ considering they don't have their own MLB team.
Posted by: JayMac | August 05, 2008 at 07:58 AM
It's nice that Iowa can outrank Colorado.
What's wrong with you, Wyoming? Step your game up!
Posted by: IowaCubs | August 05, 2008 at 08:45 AM
I'm shocked by Missouri's 10th place ranking. Currently, the state only has 15 computers.
Posted by: I-Cubs | August 05, 2008 at 08:58 AM
O and Tim your welcome cause I'm part of the 10.8%.

Go Nats! and proud to be part of the 1.1% from Tennessee...(take that Kansas)

"Interesting but somewhat predictable given market sizes and number of teams."
Actually, rather surprising, given that California is significantly larger than New York (or any other state) and has 4 teams.
Posted by: AA | August 05, 2008 at 12:17 PM
Hey frozenrope. you aren't the entire .6% but you might be .3% from Oregon
Posted by: McGunn21 | August 05, 2008 at 12:44 PM
What do you think about two more expansion teams? Both in the AL too balence out the leagues. I realize its a bit off topic but not completely off. Im just thinking that MLB could put a team in Hawaii, my home state!!!, and Las Vegas. Just a thought, and I think I heard something about MLB thinking about it on the radio a while ago.

ohio represent
Posted by: mdpappas | August 05, 2008 at 09:48 PM
AA you're a dunce! It shouldn't surprise you at all that NY is ahead of CA.
Despite CA having 5 teams the A's, Padres, Giants (Bondsless) are very small market teams with limited interest generated. Angels and Dodgers effectively split CA's largest media market.
It's unfortunate but it's clear the Yanks & Mets fans are more numerous than any other team (save for Boston).
NYC alone is probably a bigger media market than more than half of the entire CA state.
And if you're going by 'size' be advised that both Texas and Alaska are larger than California.
