This sort of outs me as not knowing a damn thing about anyone in the Rockies system, but is that proposed deal for Snell bad for the Pirates or bad for the Rockies? Seems to me that Morales will probably end up being very similar to Snell - good stuff, nice strike out numbers, but issues with allowing too many base runners. Neither of the other two prospects have eye-popping stats, either.
I feel like I am missing something...

Honestly if that's what the Pirates were asking for, the Rockies should have done it. Chris Nelson and Franklin Morales have taken HUGE steps in the wrong direction, and Esmil Rogers isn't a top prospect.

I dont think the Pirates wnat to trade Ian Snell.

I don't know squat about the Rox prospects, but those guys didn't appear to be that dynamite to me. Not that I want the Pirates trading Snell while his value is at its nadir.
I'm not sure if it's good, bad, or neutral, but teams are WAY overvaluing their prospects this year.

I' wondering if a trade for Snell still goes down this off-season. I'd hate to see him go because he does have talent, but with the Bucs being where they are in terms of rebuilding, it might be best to trade him for some prospects

Any chance of the Rox seeing the play-offs this year probably rested with the acquisition of Snell. It sounds like Rox GM was searching more for a "steal" than a trade of equal value.

I think Tim (and the Rox) are still thinking of Morales as a top prospect instead of another Daniel Cabrera talent with a million dollar arm and five cent control. Kid will get a few shots, due to his electric stuff and the fact that he's a lefty, but I'm very unimpressed and tend to think of him as a reliever down the road. Nelson had one good year and that was in the Cal League where the worst hitters bang out .275/.350/.475 stats! He's athletic and toolsy, but there's no reason to believe he'll ever become anything more than a reserve. Esmil Rogers isn't even worth talking about. Not sure if Snell is worth it, but the Rox would be wise to flip a package like that for a notable starter- who knows, maybe the A's would move Duke over the winter for those three...although, Billy Beane tends to be smarter than that.

Also, Jimenez is an exciting young pitcher, but if it were straight up (which I doubt it was), I'd trade him for Haren in a heartbeat. C'mon! We're talking about a 27 year old ace for a 22 (?) year old could-be ace. A bird in hand is worth two in the bush and all that jazz...

Surprised the Rox couldn't have pried Haren away for less, though... Ian Stewart, Greg Reynolds, Hector Gomez, and Morales probably could've done it.
(On a side note, I was calling for my O's to trade Brian Roberts to the Rox all spring. They had- and still have- a big hole at second and they were supposed to contend. On this very site, I was screamin' about dealing Roberts for a package of Ian Stewart, Hector Gomez, and a little known pitcher named Jhoulys Chacin. At the time it sounded reasonable. Now Chacin looks like a future ace. Just pointing out my genius- lol- and the idiocy of the O's. Next time listen!)
