“Rockies players haven't hit the waiver wire yet; Dan O'Dowd plans to wait until month's end. Stark wonders whether the Cards could win a claim on Brian Fuentes. Not likely, given the contenders in front of them in waiver order.”
…Ok, I cant believe how stupid this is. If O’Dowd waits till months end, the contending teams would not be able to use the players on their playoff-rosters ~ meaning there would be no real point in bringing them in. That being the case, they wont offer anything of value for a guy they wouldn’t be able to actually use in the playoffs. Unless Dan thinks his Rockies are making the playoffs and doesn’t actually intend to deal anyone no matter what, then such a move makes no sense ~ but why place them on waivers at all in that case though?

I guess Manny isn't on Stark's Christmas card list then...

Yeah, Red Sox ownership was really burned by having Manny Ramirez on the squad. So tell me, how much is their franchise worth now compared to what it was worth before Manny came along?

"I don't think there'll be a feeding frenzy for Manny Ramirez," said another executive who has worked for large-market, small-market and middle-market teams. "I don't see many places he could land."
Um, let's see- exec who has worked for small, mid, and large market teams...Andy McPhail? Minny, Baltimore, and Chicago? Just taking a stab.
Moyer's quote is hilarious. After reading the Manny stuff, it's good to know that there are some genuinely decent guys in the sport.
Rays- smart
Twins- dumb
Any team who gives Manny what he's asking- moronic
Liriano has looked like a lot more than a 3/4 thus far. Verlander...wow. But I bet he's back to his old self next year. He's too young to fall apart that fast (and for no real reason), no?
Volquez, Bruce, Cueto, Votto...you think Baker will give Krivsky credit when those guys are leading the Reds back to prominence?
'Zona gave up too much for Dunn? That seems like a stretch... If, as reported, the Reds get Owings, Castillo, and Buck, that hardly represents a 'haul.' And would Dunn accept arbitration as a fairly young guy who's been talking long term extension? I'd take my chances...and the draft picks.
