« Heyman Predicts '09 Options | Main | Odds and Ends: Indians, Rays, Jays »
According to John Lowe of the Detroit Free Press, Todd Jones may have thrown his last pitch for the Tigers. The 40 year-old is on the DL with shoulder inflammation and tendinitis, and manager Jim Leyland doesn't expect him back before the end of the season.
Jones is a free agent this winter. He earned $7MM for 41.2 innings of 4.97 ball, walking more batters than he struck out. Despite the poor season he'll surely find interest on the market.

i think they should just resign him to a reasonably sized deal, 1 year 2-3 million (incentives to 3mil), if he does the same thing they can trade him mid year, or they cant get something good for cheaper then going after a younger talent. besides, the tigers have alot more problems in need of address then jones

He's going to need a heavy incentive-based contract, being this old and injured at the same time.
The Marlins could sign him as a cheaper resource to Gregg (assuming Jones accepts an incentive deal), or possibly the Mets and Yankees as a middle reliever.
Perhaps he could use a little Dave Duncan help in St. Louis as well? We saw what he did with Troy Percival.

He did his job, and that's all the Tigers asked of him.
It's time to move on to a new closer... maybe Fuentes?
