« Pirates To Increase Budget Slightly | Main | Brewers Fire Ned Yost »
According to Timothy Wolfmeyer of the Northwest Herald, the White Sox have cleaned out Joe Crede's locker (hat tip to South Side Sox). Wolfmeyer heard the Sox are fed up with Crede's Boras-influenced drawn-out rehab from another back injury. It seems the Sox will either use Josh Fields at third base next year or explore the market. Fields had a disappointing year at Triple A. Another option would be to re-sign Juan Uribe.
Crede, 30, played very little in August and September due to his back injury. He had surgery in June of last year. The White Sox were unable to trade him during spring training after agreeing to a $5.1MM salary for '08. Boras could recommend a one-year deal to allow Crede to establish his health and re-enter the market.

Since the Sox love old players with ridiculous contracts maybe the O's could give them Mora for fields.

You mean guys like Swisher, Danks, and Quinten?
Posted by: start_wearing_purple | September 15, 2008 at 11:20 AM
Or Thome, Dye and Contreras?
We can both cherry pick!

Heh, cool your jets dude, I was just having fun. But the way Fields has played it may not be the worst trade of all time.

Good to see Boras taking some hits this year. I never liked Crede.

I'm indifferent on Crede, but this is definitely a hit on Boras.

Here's to bet he is a Twin this next season.

"for their age, thome and dye are performing extremely well. i'll take those "old guys" any day."
For any age, Dye is performing well. There is a good argument that he is the AL MVP and not Quentin.

Hey, we'll give you Kouzmanoff!

I was just joking that's my orioles homer trade idea. There is no way in hell that happens. Fields is still a pretty damn good player. If for one second the white sox even considered that and I was in the O's front office I would do whatever I had to to get that done including paying all of Mora's contract.

AMEN!

I think if the Dodgers dont sign blake or dont trade for Beltre they might give him a 1 year deal
Posted by: Cano24 | September 15, 2008 at 03:07 PM
I would expect Fields, Danks and Gavin Floyd would seal the deal. Fields and Floyd would maybe be enough just by themselves. Fields, Floyd and another prospect would be a nice compromise.

love this,Uribe for a SS showed some power and unbelievable defense in years past. His average isn't great but we can now easily resign him and OC and still get a good free agent.

Crede will never be the same again. Somebody will give him a one year deal, but back injuries that keep coming back are bad. Playing about a 1/2 season of the last 2 seasons is not good.
The Twins with Crede? The artificial turf would be great for his back. Even Guillen was smart enough to rest him in Minn. this season.

Blutarski-
I would do that trade all day(mora for fields). But I can't see the O's moving roberts for anything less then an A+ level middle infield prospect and an A- to B+ pitching prospect. I think roberts will stick around unless the brewers offer up Alcides escobar or someone on that level.

"I think if the Dodgers dont sign blake or dont trade for Beltre they might give him a 1 year deal"
That is a maybe kind of deal, especially given that Boras seems to get along with the L.A. teams better than any other, but honestly the Dodgers have better, less injury prone options internally.

Or Thome, Dye and Contreras?
cherry pick the only old guys of the team.... right
let's see, we got Javier Vazquez that's 32, don't bring up a case that that is old, there is no certain "PRIME" for a pitcher because Maddux was posing a 1.56 era when he was 33,34 and 35 years old... Randi Johnson posted a 2.34 era when he was 39
got Buehrle at 29
Gavin Floyd at 26
Jenks at 27
Uribe at 29
OC is done with the sox, we needed him for 1 year
Griffey was to help the pennant race
Quentin 25
Swisher 27
Anderson 27
Konerko 32
Pierzynski is 30
Thornton is 28
Linebrink is 31
i dont know where you're getting these "signing old players"
but they aren't
Thome, Dye and Contreras
Contreras ain't even that old for a pitcher, he's a horse
36 yrs old
pitchers can go for a long time
Posted by: ChicagoWhiteS0xFan | September 16, 2008 at 12:04 AM
preach it SOxfan. I looove Jim Thome, but do we have to pay him $16 million or whatever next year???

He was 28. Nice try.
Posted by: BadEnoughDude | September 16, 2008 at 11:55 AM
what are you talking about? who was 28?
Posted by: ChicagoWhiteS0xFan | September 16, 2008 at 12:33 PM
oh wait my bad, he posted a 2.56 era when he was 32 and a 3.62 when he was 33
those are bad? right
nice try.
Posted by: ChicagoWhiteS0xFan | September 16, 2008 at 12:36 PM
look at the ageless Jamie Moyer too
you can't say a pitchers old until they show it

point and case
Posted by: ChicagoWhiteS0xFan | September 17, 2008 at 04:41 PM
naw, we don't have to pay jim thome 16 mil, it's 13 mil, frees up 3 mil
that is if he options out
