Do the Jays get picks if he opt out of his contract? ... I thought the picks were for compensation for players who were offered arb and declined or signed elsewhere ...

They get draft picks if he opts out, is offered arb, declines, and signs elsewhere. I was kind of implying all of that.

i think the red sox should make a reasonable attempt to re-acquire the services of paul byrd next year. if hes offered arbitration and walks we get something, if he stays hes a solid seemingly enough long relief guy that could help fill in the blanks in the starting rotation once and a while. ive been impressed with him, hes been more then helpful trying to help the sox limp their way into october

"i think the red sox should make a reasonable attempt to re-acquire the services of paul byrd next year."
I sincerely doubt they will. Byrd has allowed 7 long balls in 4 starts for the Sox. He makes a good emergency pick up, but I doubt he's a long term solution as a #5 pitcher. Though offering him arbitration makes sense and it doesn't effect the team that picks him up.
Lester
Beckett
Masuzaka
Wakefield
Buchholz/Masterson/Bowden all legitimate shots at the 5th starter. Buchholz will be given the best chance to win the job, Masterson will likely start in AAA or the pen, and Bowden will likely start AAA.

Weird the guy forgot Shaun Marcum on his Elias rankings. I'd be willing to be if Dustin McGowan is a B that Marcum is also which would give the Jays 2 A's and 2 B's and Litch who isn't far off.

Good God. Yorvit Torrealba would be a type B (if he were a FA)? That's insane.

Delgado still only a B?
Posted by: icedrake523 | September 03, 2008 at 09:47 AM
ice,
Delgado is a type B as of the last update. Because of the DL component, it is very tedious to continually update all positions every day, so I am only posting a couple of positions per week.
