Where exactly does Ricciardi hope to find these "internal" options? Thigpen clearly isn't a MLB catcher at this point, and they certainly don't have a SS anywhere near contributing at the MLB level. If Travis Snider has a good spring in 09, he could easily be the 1b/DH for the next 10 years.

That pudge article is horrible. The writer seems to think that pudge should have come to detroit out of some desire to live there. The guy is trying to make money and there's nothing wrong with that. He never acted like manny and quit on his team. I'd happily leave my job if someone offered me a decent raise, I don't see baseball player as being any different.

Would Greinke still be untouchable if the Rockies offered:
Greinke, DeJesus, and perhaps a couple of prospects and cash for
Holliday and Torrealba

Jays are like 8 games above .500 under Cito. imo that will be enough to secure JP's job for next year. That plus once again the injury card. Though I'm not complaining, I am a JP supporter.

I think its time for the Blue Jays to make alot of changes. Ricciardi needs to go and they should have a fire sale, which means getting rid of Halladay. I could see him fitting with the Cardinals, which could possibly net the Jays Colby Rasmus. They definitely should let Burnett walk, as they could get some draft picks for him. What they need to do is trade all the older players and players with big contracts, and just try and get younger. Travis Snider is a great young prospect; they should build the team around him.

They are over .500 and are still at this point very much in the wild card hunt especially with the injuries to Boston and the fact that the Yankees are falling off. There is no need to have a fire sale here I might trade Halliday if I could get Rasmud the only problem with that is they would need another top tier prospect with him and the Cards don't really have that. If they need a catcher why did they trade Diaz who by everything I have seen has put up decent stats and seems to be MLB ready. They don't need to have a fire sale there is no sense rebuilding when they are 1 or 2 pieces away from being serious contenders. Also they play in the toughest division in baseball.

By Internally they mean picking up Barajas Option, Moving Aaron Hill to SS next year and keeping Inglett at 2nd.
Also a fire sale is the dumbest idea I've ever heard. I mean other then the Pitching staff which is all young players who actually wants any of the position players?

nymforlife,
minus torrealba, the holliday trade could work. i'm not sure that the royals would be enthused giving up their #1 for an outfielder they would likely only have for another year or so, even if it is matt holliday. and keep in mind that the royals already have one backup catcher who thinks he should be starting. Doubt that's a list they want to add to.

Inglett at 2b? Almost laugbable. The guy is 30 years old, and is in no way, shape, or form an MLB regular.

Yeah, good point. He's put up a line of .301/.358/.413 playing full-time basically since the end of May. He sucks.

I'd rather see the Jays find a good shortstop and use Inglett as a super sub, but I think he has proven he can play every day.

Yes. Greinke is not going anywhere. Why do people have such a hard time understanding this?

The Royals aren't a heavy hitter away from being competitive. They are about 15 players away from being competitive. So no.

nymforlife- Greinke will NOT be traded for a 1 year rental.
Way to go Pat. The first step to rehab is admitting you have a problem.

melonis rex, was that directed towards me?
Posted by: PJH | September 02, 2008 at 03:46 PM
PJH- no. The Greinke part was directed at nymforlife.
"Way to go Pat" was directed at Pat Gillick's stupid Eaton signing.
