Tim, if a team offers a player arbitration and the player opts to retire, is there any type of compensation given to the team? I am directing this question towards Mussina and Pettite.

Garland would be a nice addition to the Braves rotation. I think we could get him for 10-12.

ChiefTomahawk- I would assume the Braves would go after that frontline guy first, then patch up with Garland, since he's more of a 4th-5th starter.

The Red Sox received a comp pick from the Indians when they signed Keith Foulke, even though he retired after they signed him during spring training of '07.
The rule is not right perhaps and should maybe be changed to that a comp eligible player should perform during the regular season.

That only happened because Foulke signed with the Indians before retiring though.
