12 free agents had 20+ home runs in 2008. Here's the leaderboard:
1. Adam Dunn - 40
2. Manny Ramirez - 37
3. Pat Burrell - 33
3. Mark Teixeira - 33
5. Jason Giambi - 32
6. Raul Ibanez - 23
7. Milton Bradley - 22
8. Casey Blake - 21
9. Jim Edmonds - 20
9. Bobby Abreu - 20
9. Kevin Millar - 20
9. Eric Hinske - 20
Honorable mentions: Jerry Hairston Jr. (.487 SLG), Fernando Tatis (.484), Joe Crede (.460), and Orlando Hudson (.450). The trade market features twelve 20 home run bats in my estimation: Prince Fielder, Aubrey Huff, Mike Jacobs, Dan Uggla, Edwin Encarnacion, Adrian Beltre, Adam LaRoche, Matt Holliday, J.J. Hardy, Melvin Mora, Kevin Kouzmanoff, Garrett Atkins.

I personally hope Manny stays with the Dodgers, and I hope Tex goes to Baltimore.
Just my opinions.

i heard a rumor about a month ago, sayin tex may come to the dodgers to play 3b? does this have any truth? if it does, imagine manny, tex, martin, furcal, blake, loney, kemp, and ethier in the same lineup. the onl;y thing, if they do that, could they afford to gett cc or resign lowe?
Posted by: lakersdodgersyankees4life | October 09, 2008 at 04:26 PM
oops, no blake
Posted by: lakersdodgersyankees4life | October 09, 2008 at 04:27 PM
it take around 44m for manny(17) tex (15) and furcal (12). they lose 42m in penny, lowe, kent, nomar, even 15m in furcals old contract. id would prob equal out

Other 20-HR guys who could potentially be traded: Magglio Ordóñez and Jermaine Dye.

I would also add Blalock's name to the list of potential 20 HR guys on the block.
I still think Blalock to the Giants makes a lot of sense.

15m for tex? more like 20m
Posted by: Z3R0 | October 09, 2008 at 05:17 PM
Hey Tim,
I know you've mentioned contract estimates for many of these guys before. Could you (or someone else) compile the two in one place?
Posted by: Brett | October 09, 2008 at 05:30 PM
Z3R0
i was just estimating, but i dont see tex getting 20m, closer between 15-17m

You included Melvin Mora with the Home Run hitters?

Imagine Tex, Manny, Arod/Ortiz/Rios/Beltran/etc

i think blalock to sf can make sense, but it is a tough place for a lefty, and blalock doesn't have light tower power. i think texas is gonna exercise his option, then shop him at the meetings, because a healthy blalock is a solid 1b/3b at a reasonable price (6.2 mil). but know that the rangers would probably like to get him for a young arm, so the asking price is probably going to be [too] high. My guess is he gets packaged with a catcher or a blue chip prospect for a solid pitcher.

Tex is not playing 3rd. Tex and manny will both get more than you expect.
Lets get real here.

The Yankees should DEFINITELY resign Bobby Abreu! I love the way he plays the game, the only thing he doesn't do well is go back on balls near the wall. I love how he works the count, takes his walks etc. etc. - he's a great hitter and he helps out A-Rod by letting him see extra pitches

Melvin Mora hit 23 home runs in 2008.

your crazy to think that tex wont get between 18-22 mil a year, he is hitting the market in a weak firstbase market, he is a switch hitting 300 batting average, 30-35 hrs and 110 rbi man that wins gold gloves. there are multiple teams lining up big contracts for him i see him getting a 8 year 160 mil range.

Wow, 4 years in a row of exactly 40 HRs for Adam Dunn. As Joe Morgan would say "Blah blah, Consistency."
Posted by: Laputian | October 10, 2008 at 10:31 AM
I heard somewhere that the Phillies aren't going to be moving Howard. Any truth to that or will they at least be listening? Are they more likely to move him after 2009?

Yet only 100 RBI.
