Missed the chat
Would a team have to give up alot for beltran/ichiro or even both if they swallowed a combo of (washburn, bedard, kenji?)
Possibly a type B player some B prospects? thougths?
Posted by: thisisthedavid | October 28, 2008 at 02:41 PM
thisisthedavid: Are you talking about Adrian BeltRE, since he's the guy on the Mariners, and you're talking about Mariners players. Beltran's the CF on the Mets, who isn't going anywhere.
The Mariners should either eat their bad contracts or dump them separately, and try to get value for their stars (Beltre, Ichiro) IMO.

To the 'Theo Epstein' comment today on the chat:
Why the f**k would the Twins or Braves or Dodgers give up 2 all star catchers for Crisp, Bucholz, Bowden, Reddick or whoever you're speaking of!?!?!
WHY!?!?!
The Red Sox need a catcher- no freacken duh- but why would someone trade one of the 3 of the best catchers in the game for unproven prospects, young catchers too.
The Braves will probably never part with McCann, a home town boy.
The Dodgers will probably never part with Russell, a face of the franchise.
And Joe Mauer has even said he wants to be a life long TWIN!
That has to be officially THE stupidest trade offer I've ever seen.
Thanks for sticking it to him Tim!

ment beltre. but I feel you. It should be hard to get anyone to eat those contracts. With holes at 1b LF DH and the rotation.
If they recieve a cheap dh option, right feilder some B prospects they could have 50-60 million to spend with needs at 1B SP and possibly 3B
if they stick clement at 3B
Tex and CC could be mariners with room on the pay role.

When I try to view the chat, there is some nonsense in the application...questions and answers in a different language, anyone having the same problems? I'd like to read the transcript at least

viktor06- Click on the green arrow, and the chat will come up. The foreign language stuff is just a cover page.

forget moving him to 3rd don include beltre and recieve less. If you free up 23/30 million with the 20 you have to spend you can make big additions while getting rid of the club house problems. Sign Tex and you can even back load CC/Burnett.
Or what about signing Tex and bringing back Randy? wouldnt cost much you could take Randy and an oft injured guy and possibly get reward on both could Randy and sheets be had together at a 15 million dollar base next year plus incenstavies?
If your adding a OBP+ DH and a RF who can hit and field doing something like this can be a plus for who ever is stepping in at GM
remmeber kenji gets payed till 2011 and bedard is hurt...
washburn 10 million for 150 innings ??

Actually, if the M's were to match up with the Brewers for Prince Fielder, it would make sense, as suggested in the chat transcript, that Bedard and a pitching prospect could get it done.
We have no future at 1st base, and Prince is under control for 3 years. Safeco inflates left handed power, and Prince has plenty of that.
The only bad thing is that his arbitration raise will be insane.

David, you're trying to go too big with the Mariners. We aren't going to have an exciting off-season. The ownership, IE - Lincoln/Armstrong, has said that there will be no big signings, even if they make sense and are good fits for the long term.
The biggest splash we will/could make is trading Beltre or Ichiro, which I hope doesn't happen.

To the person who suggested Holliday to the Rays in the chat:
Why would the Rays do that? I know, I know. We are all bent over for the Rays "Cinderella" season, but fact is that they are STILL one of the smallest market teams in the league. Why would they trade for an one year Boras-client rental?

BLUEJAYS DO NOT HAVE ASTROTURF!

Cause they have the prospect surplus that would allow them to make this trade in an effort to improve their team for a year. Then they could offer him arbitration and get two draft picks in return. Not saying they should do it, but it is not the worst idea. He would add a ton of depth to their lineup.

Holliday to the Rays is a big no. Prospects are just that, prospects.
It will cost multiple top prospects. The Rays have to rely on their farm system to continue pumping out the young players they need, as some of their current core will be lost to free agency and some prospects will simply not pan out. Without the farm system pumping out players and pieces to fill holes, and/or trade for long term solutions, the Rays won't stay afloat for long.
Trading multiple top prospects for rent-a-players just isn't the way to fly.

hmmm, so the reported interest in Jason Bay was because he was not a rent a player. Not saying they should do it, but it would not be the worst idea. They have a ton of pitching depth which would allow them to trade a couple and still have starting pitching filtering into the big leagues. Add the fact that the five starters they have in the big leagues are all under team control for an extended period of time, why not upgrade the mlb team.

DOes anyone agree with me that the Rays will have to trade B.J Upton very soon? he wil cost upwards of $15 mil very soo, and the Rays don't have that. Think about that bounty of players coming back to the rays. WOW.
