$25 million a year for 3 years for Manny?? Are you out of your mind!!!!
Posted by: metzfan22 | October 15, 2008 at 03:23 PM
I think I underrated Victorino a bit...good CF defense, above average bat...asking for Hughes would not be crazy on the Phillies' part. Not that I see any kind of deal happening.

he probably will get like a 4 year 85 mill deal. hes proved during the playoffs he can still play

"$25 million a year for 3 years for Manny?? Are you out of your mind!!!!"
Maybe you are out of your mind, smartass. Manny is every bit as productive as A-Rod. A-Rod is making 27.5 million a year over 10 years. Hence, 3/75 or 2/56 (as I have been suggesting), is not even a remotely strange idea. Maybe you are crazy. Or maybe you just don't understand the baseball market.

crads will not sell the farm for anyone

tim i was wonderrin about your comment about furcal to the reds when you said they will look at other places ... their are sold on their rotation at least enough not to go spend big money on a starting pitcher . their bullpen was much improved i want to say top 5 in nl last year so they may add a couple arms but no big names. so when you look at their lineup
ss - ?
cf - dickerson
2nd - phillips
1st - votto
lf - ?
rf - bruce
3rd - ee
c - hanigan
walt has said he would explore a trade to find a right handed run producer so thats got to be someone to go in LF. so they have money to spend i dont see why spend it on furcal and kill 2 birds with one stone. ss and leadoff . how much can you really trust gonzalez coming back with the same range and hitting ability after breaking his knee cap
c - hanigan

why not ^

On the ARod-Manny argument. Manny is actually the better hitter across the board. ARod plays the more premium position, both now and before as a SS, but Manny's numbers make him, by far the better hitter of the two.
Posted by: AA | October 15, 2008 at 04:00 PM
Not to mention that unlike ARod, Manny can actually hit in the post season.
Posted by: jlowrance | October 15, 2008 at 04:09 PM
There ya go. So even more of a reason why paying him 25-30MM a year on a short deal is not crazy.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if the Dodger's broke the verbal agreement with "snake" Boras and offered Ramirez arbitration for the draft picks? Boras would (does) do things even more underhanded than that and it certainly would hurt Ramirez's contract which STILL is probably not going to approach 20 mil a year.

Can't believe no one commented on how "David Wright" talked about hitting longballs with his phallus. Does this guy have a mancrush or what?
Posted by: bucs_lose_again | October 15, 2008 at 04:59 PM
That probably was the actual David Wright.
Posted by: nrmax88 | October 15, 2008 at 05:18 PM
It would be hilarious when the Dodgers got themselves cut off from all Boras players in the future for trying to screw a Boras client.

I was in class and missed the chat. I have a question for all you experts. What kind of value do you think Laird has if he were offered in a straight-up deal for a young starter (or reliever), or at the most, maybe paired with a B offensive prospect like Arias? In other words, what could they get for him without having to relinquish any of their top minor league talent?
Let me throw 2 names out there - Ian Kennedy and Homer Bailey. Laird and Arias for either of those guys?
Posted by: J the Dizzolla | October 15, 2008 at 06:02 PM
Wow...I completely ignored the second part of that Wright question somehow.
Posted by: Tim Dierkes | October 15, 2008 at 06:02 PM
They HAVE to offer arbitration to get the draft picks.
I'm pretty sure the agreement between Manny and the Dodgers was that Manny would DECLINE the arbitration. If Manny accepts, it's all on him, not Boras or the Dodgers.

The other scary thing about Pujols' arm being healthy is that it means the best defensive 1B in baseball gets better. Remember that this guy has a rocket arm.
Posted by: AA | October 15, 2008 at 09:18 PM
Bwahahahahahaha at the David Wright comment.
Hmm...I'm digging that Freese idea for Street. I know it's just some random poster's idea, but I really dig it. Although, I'm meh on Wallace's defense at the hot corner and could easily see him shifting to LF, which could make holding on to Freese beneficial for the Cards. And, I think Chris Perez is just fine as closer. But that's just me.
How about Daniel Murphy for Street straight up? Mets fans, do you do the deal?
