« Stark's Latest: Abreu, Arroyo, Hudson | Main | Jake Peavy Rumors: Thursday »
We know D'Backs catcher Miguel Montero has been a popular name in recent trade talks, but ESPN's Buster Olney says they could choose to deal the more expensive backstop:
Rival executives, by the way, perceive that the Diamondbacks will definitely listen to offers for Chris Snyder, who is highly respected by advance scouts but is marching steadily through arbitration and is becoming expensive.
Snyder, 28 in February, hit .237/.348/.452 in 404 plate appearances this year. He earned $1.85MM in '08, and is under team control through 2010.

Would be a great addition to any teams needing a starter. I really think '09 is going to be a big year for him.
Weren't the D'Backs trying to shop Montero as well though?

The Red Sox get in on this? The guy could probably hit .250/.330/.475 in Fenway. You gotta figure though the D'Backs will want someone major league ready at an infield position..

"The Red Sox get in on this?"
The Red Sox are rumored to be in on every young catcher. They'll get one eventually...

The story say
"Rival executives, by the way, perceive that the Diamondbacks will definitely listen to offers for Chris Snyder, who is highly respected by advance scouts but is marching steadily through arbitration and is becoming expensive."
It says rival executives perceive that the D-Backs will listen.
Like I said in another thread, I don't think the D-Backs are in a position to trade Snyder because of the chemistry between him and Brandon Webb. When Snyder went down earlier in the season with his testicular fracture. Webb clearly wasn't comfortable having Montero or Hammock catching him. He was clearly second guessing some of his pitches and shook off a call at least once an at bat, and just overall wasn't himself on the mound without Snyder.
The D-Backs are asking Webb and Haren to put the team on their backs this year and carry them to the playoffs. I don't feel that would be that easy without Snyder. I don't think the D-Backs trade him.
