Here's how ESPN's Peter Gammons sees some of the bigger free agent dominoes falling, assuming the Dodgers land Sabathia:
Interesting how many GMs think that if the Dodgers get C.C. Sabathia, the Giants will get big into Manny Ramirez, and Billy Beane and the A's will continue to move fast on Rafael Furcal. Also, expect Toronto to make good on its promise to Milton Bradley that he is the Blue Jays' priority.
Would Beane and Brian Sabean really be influenced by Sabathia landing in L.A.? We may never know, as the Yankees have come out of the free agent gate with their guns blazing. I can see Beane getting Furcal regardless, even with Bobby Crosby under contract for '09.
I guessed Bradley would land in Toronto, but only because I like the fit. This is the first I've heard of them making him a priority over Jason Giambi or Manny.

... and nobody is talking about where the REAL top free agent (Juan Uribe) will go.

So will the A's trade Crosby if they land Furcal?
Posted by: bbspell22 | November 18, 2008 at 10:22 AM
i haven't seen anything gammons has said this off season so far that makes any sense what so ever. he has zero credibility as a journalist at this point in his career. let him do quick interviews on sunday night baseball, but don't expect any real news from this dinosaur.

Sorry baseball, Peter Gammons thinks there are only two baseball teams: Yankees and Red Sox. As far as he knows, The World Series is called if one of those is not in it.

What do you all suppose Milton Bradley will sign for?
I like him - am sort of hoping for the Reds to make an under-the-radar signing of Milton. (The Reds need some OBP in that lineup in a bad bad way.)

"So will the A's trade Crosby if they land Furcal?"
We throw around phrases like "that player has zero value" pretty often, but in this case I think it's appropriate.

Hmm.. No possibility of a Milton Bradley/Eric Wedge reunion?!?!
Posted by: GoTribe | November 18, 2008 at 10:51 AM
First Barry, now Manny in left field for the Giants? What an interesting concept...

I've never heard anything about the Blue Jays making a promise to Milton Bradley that he'd be their priority? But he'd be a pretty decent DH, and I'm sure Cito can handle his attitude. I mean, Cito's no John Gibbons, so I doubt there'd be a blow-up like with the Hillenbrand and Lilly situations. Besides, Cito commands respect. He has won it all before as a manager.
As for Bradley with the Reds, Bradley can't play on the field anymore because he's injury prone. I think he'd be a little iffy about signing to play outfield, as when he gets hurt, that would definitely hurt his future value.

"So will the A's trade Crosby if they land Furcal?"
More like they'll try to salary dump him on some helpless team. At this point, Bobby Crosby's value as a baseball player is near zero.
And I like Bradley for the Jays. If not Bradley, then maybe Burrell or Giambi. They just really need a DH power bat to help complement Wells, Rios, Snider, Rolen, Hill and Overbay/Lind.

uhh understatement..
its going to be a mistake for the dodgers to let furcal go. if somebody wants to give him a huge contract so be it but dont let him go for 4/40. especially to the As or giants.
if the As do get furcal the dodgers should give crosby a shot.

scrobbletone's a real nice guy. Tells a guy coming off brain tumor surgery to do a better job. How about doing a better job with your posts scribbletone, instead of posting scribble?? Or don't you like my "tone". Get off the site moron...

Uhh.. I wasn't insulting Gammons as a person. I'm sure he's a good guy, and I also have a great amount of respect for what he must have gone through health-wise.
But when talking about Peter Gammons as a baseball writer (NOT AS A HUMAN!!!), then I would really argue that his work is subpar.
Sorry to offend how, although I don't know how I did it.

"Do better work..?"

Nothing personal just seems to be disrepectful to a guy thats been around a long time.
Needs a pass due to his past medical thing he had. Hes been reporting on sports for a long time and I enjoy the guy. Mostly red sox & yanks news. Comes up with some good stuff once in a while.
I'm going to shut my trap and stay off the site now as Dodgerblue instructed.

It would be really interesting to see Furcal land with the Athletics. The Athletics are really plugging up the holes on their team and show that they want to compete in 2009.

I also got Yanks&Nats back here. Gammons has been covering baseball for decades and is in the Hall of Fame for journalists. Don't disrespect the guy for the times he slips; he's old and has gone through a lot of medical crap. Just cut the guy a break.

Umair nicely said...I guess you can say he's already "done better work" being in the HOF for sports writers. He deserves a pass. I know he comes up with some bizarre stuff from time to time but all the writers do. Pick on somebody non-HOF is all I'm saying. But you said it better Umair and in less words.
Posted by: Yanks&Nats | November 18, 2008 at 04:17 PM
Is that really Peter Gammons? Anyone could simply make their name Peter Gammons.
Posted by: themfightnwords | November 18, 2008 at 04:55 PM
i really dont think thats him.

Ugh. I thought you were leaving? Peter Gammons work has sucked since before he had the the brain issues. I'm sure he is alright, but I have never taken any "rumor" from him seriously.

If the Giants sign Manny I will vomit. Manny is a head case and he quits on his team. Even with Barry's Ego and baggage, he never quit or gave up on his team. The guy played till he could barely walk. I would like to see the Giants sign. C.C and trade for Fielder and J.J hardy. Also I want to see them get into the Orlando "O-Dog" Hudson race. The guy is a legit second basemen.

661 Dodgerblue....
How is the Jason Schmidt signing doing for you? CC wont land in LA. He is coming to SF.
