« Tigers Rumors: Santiago, K-Rod, Ordonez | Main | Red Sox Inquire On Lowe »
According to MLB.com's Joe Frisaro, the next likely trade candidate for the Marlins is reliever Kevin Gregg. Frisaro's sources say Gregg "will almost certainly be dealt."
Gregg, 30, posted a 3.41 ERA in 68.2 innings this year. His strikeout rate declined and his walk rate increased to a dangerous 4.85 per nine innings. Gregg only really struggled in August, however, as he was bothered by a knee injury. He'll earn more than $2.5MM in his last year before free agency.
Teams known to be looking for bullpen help include the Indians, Tigers, Twins, Rangers, Mets, Brewers, and Giants.

Cardinals should trade for him.

Just ask one question, is this player due to make considerably more than he did last year. If the answer is yes, then you know he will be traded. Gregg is going to increase his salary, so definately expect him to go.

my guess is the brew crew or the giants, mets should take a pass because k-rod is still to be had and this guy should really avoid the AL at all costs

I think the Cardinals will definately make a call on him. Im curious what the Marlins' asking price for him will be.

I don't think that Gregg needs to be looked upon as just a closer. He might be better suited as an 8th inning guy. In that case, the number of potential suitors probably increases.
The real question mark is how much money will he earn through arbitration.

Lol, probably salary relief. I'd love the Mets to acquire him to be a middle reliever

Knowing the Marlins viktor06, that is a very good possibility. If it is more of a "salary dump" and maybe one prospect going the other way, I think the Cards should look into it for sure.

bjsguess, I think that is a very good observation. Gregg maybe better suited for an 8th inning guy. If the Mets are interested, maybe they acquire Gregg to work the 8th, then sign K-Rod or Fuentes for the 9th?

I wouldn't mind Gregg as an 8th Inning guy, could do a lot worse....he really was good all season long, except for a disastrous week in August, where he was likely pitching hurt, as he was shelved for half of September.

Giants trade Kelvin Pichardo and Randy Winn to the Marlins for Kevin Gregg. Sounds fair to me. Get it done.

Yeah Randy Winn is exactly what the Marlins want........ Please. Gregg should do fine where ever but i don't expect anything great in return.

Rotoworld: According to the Miami Herald, the Cubs are close to acquiring Kevin Gregg from the Marlins for a "hard-throwing, unidentified young pitcher."
... whose name rhymes with Mose Meda?
