« Yankees Rumors: Teixeira, Igawa, Sabathia | Main | Will Rockies Trade Atkins? »
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Trevor Hoffman requested 12 days ago to meet with Padres owner John Moores and CEO Sandy Alderson. Hoffman's agent says the Padres have not responded, though GM Kevin Towers said he left a voicemail. Hoffman wants to talk about his role and the direction of the team. He has reason to be concerned, with the Padres openly shopping Jake Peavy.
The Padres' offer is not impressive: $4MM in '09 and a club option at the same salary for '10. Hoffman's taken less to remain in San Diego in the past; will he do it again?

Come on, Trevor. Jake wants to be a Cub. Leave Kevin alone. He has to talk to Jim.

Hoffman to the Dodgers for $7-8M for the year sounds like a good idea.

Can't see Hoffman going to LA. Seems like the type of guy who recognizes his legacy in San Diego and what that type of move would do to it. Only other place I could see him winding up would be Cleveland. Flirted with them last time, it's an AL team away from San Diego, and they have a real shot this year.
I just can't see him staying another two years in San Diego if they're going to lose another 100 games. The window is closing.
Anyone else think Cleveland? Would he even leave San Diego or is he more concerned with being comfortable than winning at this point (not that it's a bad thing)?

Hoffy wants to talk. OK, I've got some answers for you, and I won't even pretend that I'm a friend of someone in the FO. It goes like this:
The direction of them team? Catastrophic rebuild. Your role? Closer. Any other questions, Mr Hoffman? Good, now please sign on the dotted line.

I think in the end Hoffman will end up back with the Padres. If he were to leave, I see Cleveland as a real possibility. They should have a very competitive team in 2009 and they definately need a closer. I would like to say the Mets, but I don't know if those 2 are a good fit for each other. I think the Mets end up with K-Rod anyway.

i agree Dave.when do you say screw the money and this 100 loss a year team and go somewhere to win. Given the Closer spots that are needed on so many teams it would be interesting to see what offers he could get. He could easily make almost double that to the right team.

Maybe the New York Jets can nab him.
