« LaRue's Latest: Manny, Ibanez, Putz | Main | Mets Rumors: Wolf, Fuentes, K-Rod, Street, Pedro »
According to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Indians have expressed interest in bringing third baseman Casey Blake back to Cleveland. Blake stands out in a weak free agent market at the hot corner. The Dodgers are also interested, but they may view other needs as a higher priority. At the least, they should offer him arbitration as a Type B free agent.
Blake's agent anticipates offers ranging from one to three years. Blake brings the added benefit of versatility, as he can play first base and right field as well.
In other Indians news, agent Rick Thurman plans to meet with the Tribe to discuss his clients. He has Brian Fuentes, Trevor Hoffman, and Jason Isringhausen. The Indians almost signed Hoffman a few years ago.

If they bring back Blake, it really oughta be on a one or two year deal. Wes Hodges and Lonnie Chisenhall are both coming up the system, and really the Indians need to shift Peralta and Cabrera over and open up second base.

This is a typical Paul Hoynes "inside information" comment.. no actual discussion was held with the players agent.. no direct interview conversations were held with the indians GM or assitant GM.. but:
"... When Chris Antonetti, vice president of baseball operations, talked to McDowell (casey blake's agent) last week after Blake filed for free agency, McDowell said it was never mentioned if the Indians were looking at Blake as their full-time third baseman.."
In other words, Paul Hoynes looked at MLBTradeRumors, saw Casey Blake's was a free agent and offered this "ground breaking / earth shattering" insight without the benefit of anything more than that..
I wonder if Hoynes actually left his house to get this story or if he did it online? Doesn't matter much.. nothing new.. nothing special.. nothing changed. Hoynes and his non rumor rumors..
What say you?

Makes absolutely zero sense. Blake will be able to get a 3 year commitment from somebody. I can't see the Indians wanting him for more than a 1 year stop-gap. Ain't happening.

This guy from the Plain Dealer sucks! Cleveland does not need to spend money on Blake, when they can just move Peralta over to 3rd and Cabrera to short stop. It's time to start thinking of a 2nd basemen and some other players that can hit a baseball out of the park. Hafner is a has been. It's obvious that he was taking steriods because he can't hit anymore. All he does is heads back to the dugout after striking out, throws his helmet around and buldges his eyes out of his head. What a waste of money!
