11:16am: Larry LaRue of The News Tribune speaks of a "decided lack of enthusiasm" for Overbay from the Mariners.
9:28am: A rumor from Larry Stone of the Seattle Times:
Word out of Toronto is that the Jays want to trade Lyle Overbay to Seattle and are willing to pick up some of his salary. According to one source, Overbay was part of the package (along with reliever Jason Frasor) for Raul Ibanez that was nixed by the Mariners at the trade deadline.
Overbay, 32 in January, hit .270/.358/.419 in 630 plate appearances. He'll earn $14MM over the 2009-10 seasons. Also at that link, Stone puts on his GM cap and suggests some players for Jack Zduriencik.

Dealing Overbay would really help out the current situation the Jays are in.

What could they expect in return. Overbay isn't spectacular, but he surely has some value. I would hope this is to allow Lind a full-time gig at 1B, but my gut says they will be players in the Dunn/Burrell/Bradley DH role sweepstakes, and force Lind into a limited playing role.
Let Adam Lind loose!

Dealing Overbay would really free up some space for a OF/DH signing. I think they might be making a splash a year too late, though. Without AJ and Marcum the rotation's going to be Halladay and pray.
Overbay would be a warm body at 1B for the Mariners, but I don't see the Jays getting much in return. He's very ordinary.

Why would Seattle be interested in Overbay at all? 32 years old and a below average hitting for his position. .270 and 15 homerun power isn't ideal for a first baseman. That and he's owed a good chunk of change over the next two years. The Mariners could pick up someone of the scrap heap for next to nothing and nearly match Overbay's production.
Not surprised to see the Mariners are not interested.

FWIW, Miguel Cairo spent the last 2 months as Seattle's starting 1B. This is a high-budget team with no chance of contending over the next 2 years, at a minimum. Spending money on dependably so-so players and sentimental fan favorites (Ichiro, Johjima, perhaps Griffey) makes more sense for them than anyone else, so long as those investments don't trade off with accumulating talent in the farm system. I don't see it as a mistake to give up a C-prospect to pay $5m a year for 2 years for a 1B who will help push them to 75 wins instead of 65.
That Bedard trade looks worse and worse.

the Jays would love to trade Overbay, but who wants him? seriously, anyone have any idea what teams would want him?? the Jays would even pay some salary and probually only take some prospect back in return.

How about Lyle Overbay to the A's.
What the A's would give up would depend on how much salary was eaten, but this is a team that can afford to deal some young talent, as long as the player is sitting around for multiple years.

Here is what should happen:
To the Blue Jays:
Carlos Delgado
Luis Castillo
Aaron Heilman
To the Mets:
B.J. Ryan
Lyle Overbay
In this senario the Blue Jays get a big bat and someone to rotate with Lind and Snyder between L.F., 1st and DH. They also get a pitcher to help fill in the rotation.
The Mets get to dump a small amount of salary in Luis Castillo, get a legitamate closer in Ryan for 2 years and 22 mil, and someone to fill delgados void at 1st. (They have eough pop already in their line-up.
