At first glance I do not see many mistakes, Barfield dea could be one and jury still out on CC deal. I feel comfortable w Shapiro being the gm of the team I love.

Still can't believe that Colon for Brandon Phillips, Cliff Lee, and Grady Sizemore trade.

Whenever I go over these G.M. trade histories,I find a handfull of wins, a handfull of losses, a handfull of draws and a handfull of too early to tells but, for the most part, the vast majority of trades turn out to be meaningless for either trade partner.

In Shapiro's case the big wins were:

Colon for Sizemore, Lee
Diaz for Hafner
Perez for Cabrera
Broussard for Choo

The big losers were:

Church for Stewart
Scott for Robertson
Phillips for Stevens
Kouzmanoff for Barfield

It's way too early to judge the Sabathia deal.

On balance, Shapiro has done pretty well. The only truly awful deal was the Brandon Phillips fiasco while the Cabrera, Sizemore, Hafner and Choo acquisitions have/are working out spectacularly.

Montreal was a team with no future. The prospects were meaningless since the franchise was likely moving. Colon could have helped them make the playoffs and remain in Montreal.

and now you have the Nationals, who are a team with no future struggling to fill it's expensive new ballpark instead of featuring Grady Sizemore in CF everyday.

The Nationals have much more of a future than the Expos ever did during their final seasons.

"The Nationals have much more of a future than the Expos ever did during their final seasons."

Exactly. The first thing that needs to happen for the Nats is some smart drafting (e.x. drafting Strasburg, and signing him, and signing whoever is drafted with that Crow comp pick).

Shapiro has done pretty well.

As I recall, Sizemore was somewhat of a toss-in player at the time. He was so young when the Tribe got him.

After the trade, I remember watching Peter Gammons on TV and he said something along the lines of Sizemore being a wildcard because he had a lot of raw talent and could be the most successful out of the three prospects.

I'm not sure who the heck was scouting Sizemore, but a job very well done. When the Indians traded for him he only had 3 HR in over 900 ABs between RK, A and A+

The sizemore, lee, AND Phillips trade was ridiculously good, too bad they traded Phillips for nothing.

Do not understand how people believe this guy is good. He never has won a world series for us. Heck he never even got us to a world series. with you people that think this guy is good at his job. They will always be a day late and a dollar short. Just like you brainless posters.
