"J.P. Ricciardi says trading Roy Halladay hasn't even crossed his mind. Dan Graziano wrote last Wednesday that some continued to insist the Jays would explore trading their ace."

Of course it hasnt, it was just another bored sports writer making a claim on a complete day dream source because he would love for his favourite team to have Halladay.

I keep reading about Ludwick rumors - I just wonder why they seem so intent on moving him after the terrific season he just had? I suppose they question if he can sustain it, but he's cheap and productive, I can't see him going anywhere.

Angels don't need pitching, they need hitting. And if the don't sign Tex, they will have the same old problems producing runs.

I really think that St. Louis' insistence to move Ludwick over Ankiel is a reflection of their questioning of his 2008. In 2008, Ludwick was a far better hitter than Ankiel and a near equal in the field, and while being practically the same age, Ludwick is under control for two seasons more than Ankiel.

Logically, moving Ankiel would make more sense as he's only under control through 2009 and is a Boras client. But, if St. Louis thinks Ludwick's season was a fluke, then they would probably try moving him instead while he's at his highest value. I think that's the case here.

The Cardinals think that Ludwick just had the best season he'll have, and his value won't ever be higher. If they can plug one of their middle infield positions for the next few years, why not make a deal like that?

Obviously CC is numero uno for the Yanks. After that every pitcher has a big question mark regarding them (age, health and inconsistency). I don't know what Sheets is asking or if he's waiting to see what AJ gets first since they're comparable players (good stuff, often injured) but I wouldn't mind the Yanks signing him to a 3 yr/45 mil deal with incentives and maybe a 4th year option. Is that reasonable?

Domican Yanks:

I agree. I think Tex is a must have for the Angels. Vlad had an off year and needs some protection in that line up. Plus if Anderson and Rivera don't return that weakens the line-up even more. And Vlad has a $15 mil option next year. If he has another off year or his knees act up will they pick up the option? Having Tex at least gives them some comfort in case Vlad can't bounce back in 09.

"I wouldn't mind the Yanks signing him to a 3 yr/45 mil deal with incentives and maybe a 4th year option. Is that reasonable?"

Actually, I would say that is reasonable. I'm sure that Sheets would love to land a three year deal that pays him $15M per, considering that his lack of durability seemed to point him towards a one or two year deal, or maybe even to the point of accepting arbitration.

I actually think that Sheets could/would be a better investment for the Yankees than Burnett. If you can land Sheets at 3/45 or Burnett at 5/75, Sheets is by far the better option. Although he's a higher injury risk than Burnett, he's also a better pitcher when healthy, and Burnett has his health questions as well.

As for Tex in LA, he's a really big piece of that offense, but I don't know if he's a must have for them, because if LA signed CC to a similar contract and went with a rotation of Sabathia, Lackey, Santana, Saunders and Weaver, then I don't think the offense would matter so much.

Scribbletone:

I think that AJ is more of an injury risk than Sheets. If you see it on the the River Ave's link, you see that AJ has been injured more and Sheets has pitched 200+ innings pitched more than AJ.

Yanksfan78 i think can recall that i mentioned this same thing a couple days ago, saying that a Sheets or Ollie Perez would be better than AJ with his insane 5 year stuff

(200+ innings a year, in his career)

I think the Cardinals are looking to move Ludwick over Ankiel because Ankiel will be a free agent so Ludwick should bring more in return.

Besides, Ankiel is a CF, can Ludwick even play CF? I'm not sure.

also, by us maybe getting Sheets before CC, wouldn't it give CC more incentive to sign with the Yankees given the fact that they were teammates?

2009 Rotation:
CC
Wang
Sheets
Pettitte
Joba

(spot starters: Hughes, Aceves)

We would have ( if Sheets is healthy) four 200 innings+ eaters.

Can i have some thoughts please!!! =]

"Of course it hasnt, it was just another bored sports writer making a claim on a complete day dream source because he would love for his favourite team to have Halladay."

Trading Halladay seems reasonable to me. The Jays just cannot get it together, the team is aging while not producing and he's easily their most valuable piece. If he decides to leave for greener pastures, Toronto should deal him like Cleveland did CC.

"We would have ( if Sheets is healthy) four 200 innings+ eaters.

Of those 5, which is the one who isn't going 200?

I see 3 possibilities.

Joba won't get 200 innings and i said if sheets was healthy then we would have four, but most likely there are 3 bonafide innings eater in CC, Wang, and Pettitte

I would be very happy with a rotation of:

CC (28)
Wang (29)
Sheets/Perez (30/27)
Joba (23)
Pettite (37) on a 1 year deal

Hughes (22) as a 6th man long relief guy. Would it be a stupid thought to have Joba pitch innings 1-5 and Hughes 6-8 on a regular and every once in a while Joba is skipped to start and Hughes takes his place?

I'm tired of all this Ludwick trade talk....Skip can't hit lefties, Duncan just came off a major surgery and Ankiel just came off a surgery as well, you don't know what either of them are going to give you plus you have no idea what Rasmus will do at the major league level and Barton will most likely start the season in Triple A,and Ludwick has been healthy for 3 seasons now. Ludwick may not repeat what he did this season but I think he can still put up .280, 25 homeruns, 90+RBI's.

"Disagree

You can disagree if youd like but the bottom line is, until Halladay says NO to an extension with the Jays, I really highly with almost complete certainty doubt that theyd even think about shopping him around.

I however see how other teams could be calling JP and bouncing some offers off of him or maybe saying "hey if you want to unload Halladay, come to us first" but can you honestly give me one reason why JP would be shopping his ace and franchise player before even having extension talks with him?

The Angels do need offense more than pitching but if they signed CC it gives them the depth to trade Saunders or Santana who both had breakout years and made the All-Star game last season. There has been plenty of talk about Fielder being available.

Holy crap! Don't call Chass' site a blog!
