the latimes piece is kind of insulting as a dodgers fan. It sounds like something Bush would say. It couches the payroll as, 'if you want the dodgers to sign an expensive free agent than you're not a charitable person'. I think it's really unfortunate that they'd approach the question this way when the charitable things done by the dodgers for the community and the baseball business are two different things. L.A. is the second biggest market in baseball and the McCourts have raised ticket prices significantly.
My follow up question would have been wouldn't paying Manny $30 million a year produce enough additional revenue to build 50 ballfields and then some?
It's not an either/or proposition.

McAnulty and Traber. The Sox are well on the way to reclaiming the East.

McBeth and Traber are both interesting arms at least. Doubt either are much use in Boston though other than helping out Pawtucket.

Wow, Maza signed....That certainly eases the forthcoming pain of watching Furcal leave. I guess that leaves re-signing Gary Bennett as the next big priority?

Didn't even realize Marcus McBeth was out of the Reds system already. All I remember about his short stint was that he was a hard thrower.

Garrett: maybe you need a firmer grip on politics but the LA times piece sounds more like something a democrat would say like say Joe Biden, "taxes are patriotic". Thats basically what the Dodgers are saying as you said they are raising ticket prices (taxes) to spend apparently less money on players, no manny, furcal ect.

Well looks like the Dodgers got their big free agent, nothing to do but wait for the season now.

the mccourts need to open the check book up, i mean they are spending like 500 million dollars on that shopping mall being built into and around the stadium. that thing is going to flop so bad, but he wont sign the pieces that will make the team a contender for 3-4 years.

the dodgers just need to pony up and sign manny. give him 2 years 60 mil. that way he doesnt overstay his welcome. and they will need a top tier pitcher. throw the keys to the bank at CC. he is worth it
