Nice of McCarron to mention Daisuke. He's definitely worth the investment Theo made on him. In more ways than one. (See Tazawa)
-------------------------------
The Red Sox can claim that Daisuke Matsuzaka is a $100 million pitcher because they forked over $51.11 million as a posting fee to his Japanese club and then signed him for $52 million. It's doubtful Boston has the buyer's remorse the Giants might over Zito, because the Sox have won one World Series and made another ALCS with Matsuzaka.

People really need to get over the Kevin Brown deal, because that guy was worth the money, despite his age at the time of the contract. At least to the Dodgers. That the Yankees had to suck down the last 2 years of his deal was their problem, and even then he pitched pretty well in an unlucky 2004.
He pitched like the ace he was for 2 3/4 years, had a year mostly taken away by injury, then turned around and put together a Cy Young-caliber year in 2003 at the age of 38. The guy sucked up nearly 500 innings in the first 2 years of that deal at the highest level in the game and was similarly dominant for more than half of the third year.
Just because the Yankees are bitter doesn't mean the Dodgers did a bad deal with him. He was arguably the best pitcher in baseball at the time.

I thought the point of these articles was that you don't know how they will end up.
I will concede Sabathia might be the most worthly of the list, and while many were iffy on Zito's deal, he was durable, constant winner, about as safe as you could get.
Who knows how Sabathia will end up, the first few years will be worth it, how about the last few?

Whenever you spend that much money on one single player it's always a huge risk. The risks of an injury are always there.

"Who knows how Sabathia will end up, the first few years will be worth it, how about the last few?"
Sabathia has several things in his favor. First, he is only 27 and won't be 28 till the middle of next season. That means he will only be 34 entering the final year of a 7 year deal. That is the same age Kevin Brown was when he entered the first year of his deal. Second, Sabathia is a lefty with good command of his secondary pitches, which should serve him well even if he loses some zip on his fastball. Third, Sabathia has really clean mechanics and should be free of arm problems absent abuse.

Yea maybe the Yankees should of payed beltran

The sole reason Teixeira might be a Yankee in 2009 is based on the comment above... they didnt sign Beltran.
They will probably sign:
CC Sabathia, Mark Teixeira, and Ben Sheets in my opinion. They grab the two aces of the Brewers who are familiar with each other and might like pitching together again and sign a dynamic 1B who fills a big need long term.

The Red Sox have two recognizable needs. Catcher and young power. In order to replace Manny and a declining/injured Ortiz. Tiexiera is a must sign for Theo. I'm just glad Cashman made pitching a priority for the offseason. This should make things easier for Theo to win out on the Tex bidding.

"the sky is blue" added McCarron.

The thing people seem to conveniently forget about Sabathia is that while there are some positive indicators it only takes one negative one to setup a potential disaster. For Sabathia it is the amount of innings he has been throwing the past few years and possibily weight concerns (overblown at best yet at least worth considering).

Why would you say Yanks were bitter over the deal? We traded a bad contract (Jeff Weaver's) for another bad contract (Kevin Brown's) when it was all said and done we ended up paying not much for Brown and his 14-13 record over 2 years.
