I'll take Young for Kouz and move Headley back to 3rd...make it happen!!!!

Any GM in their right mind would take Young for Kouzmanoff, but it sounds too good to be true, I can't imagine the Twins would make this deal. If it really has been discussed though, Kevin Towers should add in whoever he needs to bring Delmon Young to Petco in LF.

I agree, Young in Petco would be amazing. I dont see the twins giving him up that easily, but maybe they really like Kouz, whos numbers on the road have been great. So we shall see.

Looking to make the Garza trade look even worse. Clever, Bill Smith. Clever.

Good god please no. This cannot be true. Someone assassinate Bill Smith before he can make this terrible terrible trade

Man, if Delmon Young was having a hard time finding his power swing after the transition to Minnesota, imagine what it'd be like in San Diego. That would be the kind of move that could ruin a young player's confidence, and career.

umm i clicked on that link and it was a joe maddon honeymoon story. i also searched the archives of prospecticus for the article and came up with nil. You sure this is right Tim? It really doesnt seem like something the Twins would do....

The San Diego coaches would have to help him focus on his ability to hit for contact and get on base; coming to Petco doesn't have to ruin him. I love the idea of his right-handed bat in the 3-hole between Giles & Gonzalez.

Do the Twins need bullpen help? Cla Meredith could be added in to help balance this out.

True. Delmon Young could develop into a Randy Winn type.

The Twins dont need bullpen help with a healthy Neshek. We could also get so much more for Delmon young..... This is the most moronic trade i have ever heard of. It just cannot be true. Someone want to provide a link that this is an actual possibility?

What do these Japanese teams have to offer in a trade ?

That was a short honeymoon for the twins and Delmon Young. I think there must be more to the story.

I'll state again for the record my disdain for Ruben Amaro.

I wish Mike Arbuckle would consider vigilante justice.

Den Orath, you need to scroll down to the bottom of the article. Here is what he wrote:

"Twins have interest in the Padres' Kevin Kouzmanoff to fill their hole at third base, and are reportedly willing to trade left fielder Delmon Young for him."

Now that I think about it, since he said "reportedly" I wonder if he's just talking about some other article.

I could definitely see something like this but the pads would need to add more such as Scott Hairston and Meredith or Hairston and the AA stud Inman..... or maybe headley and meredith would work

Although I think Kouz should be our third option at third base...........

1. Beltre- great D and kills lefties

2. Blake- good D professional hitter

3. Kouz- poor D good power bad against lefties poor OBP

4. Crede- good D injury ?

thiela:

Kouz away from home career:

.280/.330/.448 (OPS+ 116)

Defensively: I will give you terrible 2007, but worked on it in offseason, with Padres coaching staff and better than league average, thats not poor.

Compare Beltre/Blake/Kouz last year.
Fp:
Beltre: .964 14 Errors
Blake: .957 14 Errors
Kouz: .974 11 Errors

Kouz also lead the group in Innings played and total chances.

RF:
Beltre: 2.77
Blake: 2.53
Kouz: 2.64

ZR:
Beltre: .844
Blake: .768
Kouz: .768

So if you are going to compare him to them you should at least look up the stats before making the statement. If you know where to find the plays over replacement player stats, or the +/- system i would love to see how they play with these.

Delmon Young for Kouz?

No. No. No. NO. Absolutely not.

Horrible trade for the Twins. Delmon has way too much upside to trade him for Kouz.

Kouz is a good player, and a HR threat, but it is selling low on DY.

Is LaMar seriously the Phillies assistant GM?

Seriously.

By the way, i am not saying Kouz, is worth Young, I am saying its unfair to call him a poor defender. Plus i can only image what he would do for a full season of not having to hit in Petco.

+/- Stats for 2008:
Beltre +32 (ranked 1st)
Crede +13 (4th)
Kouzmanoff -2 (20th)
Blake -5 (24th)

If we are offering young why not go out and get beltre...

still dont wanna see young moved tho

thanks Not Joe Morgan, where do did you get them, i always wondered?

Den, i think its for cost. Beltre is the best player at the position there is no denying that. And i was not saying the Kouz is equal to him. But the price of Beltre is far more expensive, both in terms of prospects and money, for a much shorter gain. Kouz has 4 years of team control left, while Beltre has one before free agency.

So i depends on what the twins want, a longer solution or a short term fix that will motivate them towards a deal. Headley isnt going anywhere, he has 5 years of team control left, maybe 6, not sure exactly how many days he spent on the big league club.

They're on the Bill James pay website but the format there absolutely sucks. You can't get a dump of all the +/- rankings; just a top 10 list or do single player searches. Really annoying. I will not renew.

I think a lot of people outside of SD underestimate Kouz...his numbers stack up pretty favorably when compared to other 3rd basemen and his defense was much improved this year..I would like to keep him but when you have Headley and could possibly get Young for him you've gotta make that deal if you're the Pads...

if the pads really want young how about somthing like young for headly and meredith? that would be something to work on

I already made a comment to trading Headley, is upside is greater. Plus i looked his year this year will not count as a full year, meaning he wont reach free agency until after 2014 season. Compared to Young after the 2012 season.

The Padres are rebuilding, Kouz is expendable cause of Headley not the other way around. You keep young controllable talent and trade away others.

It was a rumor started not by SD, it was started by BP, and he said the Twins would be willing to give up Young for Kouz, not that thats what the Padres are asking for. I would think the Padres would target one or two of the young pitchers the Twins have to be honest.

"If it really has been discussed though, Kevin Towers should add in whoever he needs to bring Delmon Young to Petco in LF."

Young should be playing RF or CF, not LF. His talent is wasted in LF. Further, you are absolutely right. If the Twins are that stupid, the Padres should take the offer in a heart beat and throw in a nice trip to Europe for the Twins' GM.

"Wow, how his value has really fallen since Smith was raped for Garza!"

That wasn't a rape. The trade was pretty much dead even.

MLB.com has a different list of minor league free agents including a few players not on the BA list like Charlie Zink and Kevin Jepsen.

I think Rock Jr. could be interesting for a team in need of an OF. He hit .311, slugged .530, stole 30 bases and plays great D...much like his father.

Josh Bard is a minor league free agent?!

someone needs to sign him. maybe the marlins? good fit?

Im happy to see Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel get a chance to be part of the Indians organiztaion. Me as a highschool students couldnt be more happier to see them in the major leauges some day. This gives me mental strenght that an Indian like me can play in the MLB some day.

I can't imagine the Padres dealing Headley for Young straight up, let alone throwing something else of value in with him.

3rd base is a prime position that the twins need and left field is not. the twins are deep in the outfield.

kouz is a very good defender and his hitting will only get better especially when he leaves petco.

Wow to the Boras book thing. Cameron really took that one apart. Even if you think Saunders' season was a fluke (I don't, I think his skill set is potentially that of a LH Greg Maddux with more velocity) and that Moyer and Johnson are really old, that is still 10 guys who are easily better than Perez. And then lets not forget that there are guys like Clayton Kershaw who out-pitched Perez at 20 years old and have a much higher ceiling.

Here is what I assume to be the best minor league free agent team (and keep in mind its really awful)

C- Eliezer Alfonso
C- Jason Phillips
1B- Ben Broussard
2B- Matt Kata
SS- Mike Rouse
3B- Morgan Ensberg
LF- Rob Mackowiak
CF- Chris Duffy
RF- Victor Diaz
CI- Joel Guzman
MI- Tony Graffanino
OF-Tommy Murphy
OF-Paul McAnulty

SP- Jorge Sosa
SP-Mike Bacsik
SP- Nelson Figueroa
SP- Victor Zambrano
SP- Enrique Gonzalez

CL- Danny Graves
RP- Brandon Medders
RP- Roberto Novoa
RP- Chris Schroder
RP- Emiliano Fruto
LHRP- Ray King
Long-RP- John Van Benschoten

everybody needs to realize delmon young's value is very, very low right now. just looking at his stats from last year is only half the picture. he gained a lot of weight (which is scary considering his brother's weight and his diabetes problem), and looked like he lost a lot of athleticism in the field last year compared to 07 in tampa. maybe he wasn't comfortable in left, but either way he was a subpar outfielder last year. that being said, i think delmon young for kouzmanoff and a reliever is pretty close to fair.
