"The Tigers and Trevor Hoffman may be a match."
I think they might be too. The Tigers need a cheapish veteran reliever to finish off games behind Zumaya and Rodney. I think Hoffman may be poyfectt.
And Davidoff is an idiot if he thinks any team would spend $73M on the bullpen. Remember when Baltimore tried to buy a bullpen and ended up with the worst in the AL? Come on..

Davidoff's predictions are horrible. If K-Rod is going to take 4 years, then the Mets would definitely outbid the Cardinals for him.

they are flippin' horrible predictions. davidoff is worse than the brand of cigarettes that bears his name.
the braves, with 42 million to spend this offseason, ONLY signing Renteria?
please. they're not even interested. Now, if they trade for Peavy (not looking so likely now), then I could see them signing Furcal. But they'd also look HARD at Dempster and Burnett.
This guy...sheesh

That's just dumb. The Cards has a few young, inexpensive arms that are going to be good in the 2009 bullpen. I see them signing one more righty to close and a loogy or two. Not K-Rod, not Cruz, not Springer. Any half witted baseball fan would know that. I would expect better out of a BASEBALL WRITER!

i wanna see Salomon Torres go "wait, changed my mind, wanna play now" lol that would be priceless

As another Cards fan, I totally agree with the previous posts. $73mil for a bullpen is way too much, especially with that we have coming up. I liked what I saw of Perez and Motte.
I could see Springer and/or Cruz for the right price, but definitely not K-Rod. I'm still unsure about how much impact a single closer has, and that's after the destruction we saw last year.
I'd rather go after someone like Furcal if we're going to be spending that kind of money on one player, or God forbid a quality starter we can count on more than 25 starts from (Derek Lowe...).

Hey guys, I don't know if this means that Davidoff changed his predictions, but he doesn't have K-Rod going to the Cards on the site now. He has him going to the Mets with Fuentes to the Cards. No longer the $73M bullpen, but rather the $57M bullpen. As a Cub fan, I would appreciate them whizzing this much money into the bullpen when it looks like they already have more than one quality arm there! But anywho, that's what i saw.

K-Rod will not be a Cardinal...though Cruz and Springer very well could be.

Chris Perez says hi.
The Cardinals just need to grab a lefty (Affeldt), and show Izzy the door, and they'll be fine.

scribbletone is right on.. overpaying for a bullpen isn't the way to go.. cruz and affeldt would make sense

I would love to see Hoffman in a Tiger uniform. I understand fully Hoffman is not what he used to be, but he has mastered the changeup, and might be able to help out Rodney with his. Even with his dropoff due to age, he is better than Rodney at closing.
Is Crosby up for grabs? If so, what do the A's want?
