i think the red sox should take a swing at acquiring Street, if the price manages to stay on planet earth. we could get the right handed setup guy weve needed for two years now

If the Braves can get Tazawa plus one of these three guys Peavy/Lowe/Burnett I would be very happy.

I just don't see the A's and BoSox matching up well unless Boston is willing to part with Jed Lowrie, and i'm not sure I can see that happening. Regardless of how much people want to blow Street's 2008 out of proportion, Street is an excellent reliever and has plenty of value but Lowrie had a nice season last year and Boston may want him as their long-term option at SS.

swap Justin Masterson for Huston Street.

Ummm if there is one thing the A's don't need its middle infield prospects.
They have quite a few high ceiling prospects that deals could be based around.
I don't think Street is worth giving up the young talent, and I'm sure Jed Lowrie wouldn't be part of any deal if one was made.

JT89, Masterson for Street is a horrible trade for the Sox. Masterson has the potential to be better than Street in the 'pen, or a solid starter. Personally, I don't think any team will give up a lot in a deal for Street. I see it as a minor move.

if its gonna be masterson, youd have to take lugo and eat his contract too

"Ummm if there is one thing the A's don't need its middle infield prospects."
The only guys with high upside are Cardenas and Weeks, and Weeks is several years away (his progression was set back by a hip injury which sidelined him for the bulk of the season). Ideally, Weeks is ready in 2011 and takes the reins from Ellis, and Cardenas takes over SS. 3B is still a question mark, since there is a very good chance that Chavez won't be able to play 3B upon return from surgery.
The things A's need are middle infield prospects and power.
Pennington's upside is as a solid utility player, and Patterson is a non-entity.

Masterson for Street is a horrible deal for the Red Sox. And, I'm pretty sure Lowrie is the starting SS for the Sox next year.

Billy Beane and Kenny Williams seem to get along well.
Maybe
Chicago White Sox:
Jerry Owens
Lance Broadway
Josh Fields? Wasserman?

Mets send Heilman, Carp/Evans and Muniz for Street.

Ok, I have a few things to add. First off, the A's are not deep in middle infield prospects. Cardenas is a nice prospect, but not many scouts think he'll stick at SS and there are some who even question his ability at 2B if he doesn't develop much more defensively. He may end up sticking at 2B, or he may even end up over at 3B but SS is highly unlikely unless he makes some huge strides defensively. That leaves the A's SS depth at Coleman, Leyja, and Christian. Not one of these guys are even close to being ready, and will all start the 09' season scattered throughout the A level teams.
As far as Street goes, lets get real people. Everyone is taking his down half season in 08' and RUNNING WITH IT. He was PITCHING INJURED, and luckily has 3-1/2 other very good seasons under his belt to prove to GM's that he's still among the best young relief arms out there. A deal including Street will not be considered a "minor move". If any other closer in baseball with his career numbers were dealt it would be a big move, but there are a lot of Street haters out there. Luckily, GM's and their staffs realize talent and won't "hate" on a guy with a career 2.88 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and nearly a 4:1 BB/K ratio. He's good, sorry.
As far as a Mets deal goes, Heilman shouldn't even be brought up. Mets fans have been wanting to dump him for years, and the last thing the A's need to strengthen is their bullpen. That's why Street is expendable to begin with. Also, although I like Evans, the A's don't need more 1B/DH/OF types. They are pretty stacked in that department. I could see something with Murphy happening, but I think even that is doubtful.

Somehow I think Heilman would get his wish and be converted to a starter in Oakland and I agree Murphy is a better fit at 3B for the A's than Evans.

Their no question Schilling won't be back with the Red Sox,i could see a team mid way through the 09 season thats making a playoff run picking him up,but other then that his career is pretty much over.

Anyone notice the Huston link is for a different story on Embree? It's been up for 8+ hours and it hasn't been fixed??

If the Dodger resign Manny I'd like to see the DBacks sign Schilling mid way through the year just to see if he has the balls to plunk ManRam when he comes up to bat.

It's at the bottom off that article.
Also as has been pointed out the A's are hardly overflowing with middle infield prospects. The fact that they have to put up with Bobby Crosby is telling. Near ready SS and 3B prospects would like be top of their wish list.
