« Dodgers Make Offer To Manny, Will Pass On Varitek | Main | Matt Holliday Rumors: Wednesday »
8:33pm: Yankees GM Brian Cashman says there's mutual interest with Pettitte.
4:44pm: We know Andy Pettitte wants to pitch in 2009, and he prefers the Yankees. However, the Yanks want to hear from Mike Mussina before they talk to Pettitte. Further complicating matters, Ken Davidoff says Pettitte may desire a two-year deal.
Davidoff figures the Astros will try to jump in and sign Pettitte. The Astros seem to have room in the budget for one free agent starter.

The Astros can have Pettitte for 2 years. I'd love Pettitte back for 1, but 2?
We'll take the draft picks in that case. How does 9 draft picks in the first 2 rounds sound?
Posted by: Jeteristheman | November 05, 2008 at 04:56 PM
Hopefully Yanks dont sign Andy.
They need to go after Dempster.
Try to trade Melky and Matsui.
Posted by: Damnyankees | November 05, 2008 at 04:58 PM
myname borat-
if that is all the yankees do the team will be a .500 team.
Dempster is def resigning with the Cubs. Randy Wolf and Garland???? Are you kidding me? Why would you want people who are worse that Pettitte who will requires a longterm contract.
Resign Giambi or Hinske? jesus...
your team is terrible hah
Posted by: CorShep | November 05, 2008 at 05:04 PM
nice! i don't think their pick is protected. pettitte would more or less rape back in the nl, so it really doesn't matter

Trade Matsui,Kennedy, and another prospect for Matt Holiday.

Great. Offer Pettite arbitration. If he rejects thats good because they get 2 picks. If he accepts its not bad for 1 year.
Posted by: yankfan1 | November 05, 2008 at 05:13 PM
hay my plan doesn't put the yanks payroll insane. Its a for the future plan. It can make the playoffs because of the improved pitching and help for the future i want them to stick with there young talent

YankeesFan4Life
The Rockies dont want trash for Holliday. They could do alot better.
Posted by: yankfan1 | November 05, 2008 at 05:14 PM

"DrNo990"
THATS SO F-ING
stu*p*d
ALRIGHT! YOUR'RE NOT ALLOWED TO SPEAK FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK! GO INTO THE CORNER AND KNOCK YOURSELF OUT! DON'T SPEAK AGAIN! DON'T TALK! THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU JUST SAID!
1-WHY WOULD U SIGN JON GARLAND OR RANDY WOLF OR RYAN DEMPSTER WHEN THE YANKEES WANT TO SIGN CC SABATHIA (HE'S BETTER THAN ALL OF THEM)
2 - WHY WOULD YOU WANT GIAMBI OR HINSKE INSTEAD OF MARK TEIXEIRA!
3- MELKY CAN'T SEEM TO HIT MAJOR LEAGUE PITCHING - GARDNER SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO GET ON BASE
4-WHY WOULD YOU SIGN BRANDON LYON? WOW - YOUR NOT TOO BRIGHT ARE YOU
5-THE ONLY THING YOU SAID THAT MADE SENSE WAS ABOUT BOBBY ABREU, MIKE MUSSINA, AND ANDY PETTITE BEING TYPE-A FREE AGENTS!
The Yankees need to:
Sign CC Sabathia
Sign Mark Teixeira
Sign Mike Mussina & Andy Pettitte
Sign Bobby Abreu
Extend contract w/ Marte
Don't trade Cano
Put Joba in the bullpen
Sign Burnett/Lowe/ or trade for Peavy
Sign or trade for Holliday/ Manny Ramirez
CF Damon
SS Jeter
RF Abreu
3B A-Rod
1B Teixeira
DH Matsui
C Posada
LF Nady
2B Cano
or
CF Damon
SS Jeter
RF Abreu
3B A-Rod
LF Holliday/Manny
1B Teixeira
DH Matsui
C Posada
2B Cano
* THAT! IS A STACKED LINEUP*
Posted by: Zrosey21 | November 05, 2008 at 05:24 PM
borat
then why not just sign C.C. and Teixeira? Much more logical, eh?
Posted by: Jeteristheman | November 05, 2008 at 05:24 PM
Here is what the yanks should do not will do
sign: 2 out of these starting pitchers
Jon garland type b

1b hinske or giambi or we can break the bank and sign tex
catcher resign molina hope posada can play
bullpen offer arbitration to marte
and sign brand lyon
we would be stacked for the draft and pitching whould be lights out.
Posted by: mynameborat | November 05, 2008 at 05:26 PM
we will lose picks then
im fine with tex but cc arm will fall off he can pitch in the al anymore
Posted by: mynameborat | November 05, 2008 at 05:27 PM
he cant
Posted by: mynameborat | November 05, 2008 at 05:28 PM
zrosey21; good except:
1. let abreu walk for picks; nady's d will be so much better you won't need stats for it. no 3 yr deals for 35 y/o's any more
2. moose or Andy, pref the prior
3. I'm up for getting Juan Rivera and plug him in left to shift Damon to center to get the offensive superiority about 2/5 days
Posted by: ArodMVP217 | November 05, 2008 at 05:31 PM
yankees need front line pitcher. Dempster, wolf, garland and even lowe arent front line.
Posted by: GeneralManager | November 05, 2008 at 05:32 PM
You are not smart, borat.
A) Let's sign Lyon - why? He had a 4.70 ERA in the NL WEST this season. He will want a multi year deal, dumbstuff to sign him.
Molina is not a free agent this year...where ar eyou getting this from?
Dempster has had one good year in the SP role - but let's give him 13 mil a yr to come to the best hitting in baseball.
Giambi is a .240 hitter that will give you 30 HRs. He is 37.
But of course, we should give him the 3 yrs he wants.
Posted by: B3NG4L | November 05, 2008 at 05:35 PM
Pettite should wanna reunite with Joe Torre in LA. I like the sound of that!
Posted by: NedCollettiClueless | November 05, 2008 at 05:37 PM
1 year ok, no more than that.
What I think they should do..
Sign CC or Burnett, not realistic to think they will get both.
Thats gives you CC, Wang and Joba. Then sign either Moose, Pettite or Lowe and let Hughes have the 5 spot. If we are gonna hold onto him, they are gonna use him.
The only position player they need is Teixeira. The lineup would be
Damon LF
Jeter SS
Tex 1B
Arod 3B
Posada C
Nady RF
Matsui DH
Cano 2B
Gardner/Melky CF
When you have 1-8 hitters like that, it does not really matter if #9 hits 240. Id like to see Gardner given a shot, he plays very good D, can bunt and can run like the devil. He might end up being a singles hitter, but those singles will turn into doubles real quickly.
The pen can be left alone, Veras, Ramirez, Bruney, Coke, Aceves, Guise, Robertson, Sanchez...we can find success with some combination of those guys and if they can keep Marte, its even better. Mo of course is Mo.
Posted by: yankeegirl49 | November 05, 2008 at 05:51 PM
Go back to Houston Andy if that's what you really want. Your not that big game pitcher that was so reliable in the past.
Posted by: JuNeYanksFan | November 05, 2008 at 06:01 PM
ZRosey's plan would add (my guesses in annual salary):
-- CC Sabathia ($25m)
-- Mark Teixeira ($18m)
-- Mike Mussina ($12m)
-- Andy Pettitte ($12m)
-- Bobby Abreu ($14m)
-- Damaso Marte ($5m)
-- Burnett/Lowe ($16m)
-- Holliday ($13m) / Manny Ramirez ($23m)
Starting at the $145m figure that Tim provided you would add $125m (assuming Manny instead of Holliday) to that salary. Your new payroll - $270m. And you still don't have a catcher. Looked at another way - those signings alone would be the 2nd or 3rd highest payroll in baseball by themselves.
Zrosey is exactly why people are all over absurd Yankee fan proposals.
Posted by: bjsguess | November 05, 2008 at 06:05 PM
I have already corrected him bj; your services are not required.
Posted by: ArodMVP217 | November 05, 2008 at 06:14 PM
Astros better not sign Pettitte for tons of money that we should be spending elsewhere, while giving up another Phil Hughes. I think Ed Wade deserves some credit for once from you people. He did basically build the championship team from this year. We should possibly go out after Wolf, but dont expect for him to sign.
We get a draft pick for the guy. Loretta and/or Brocail could also net us a pick. Astros should be settling arbitration cases and clearing space for the Rule 5 draft. I think Backe will bounce back, despite his recent run in with the law. If I recall correctly, Pedro Martinez shruggled with his velocity and control after his Tommy John surgery. Just 3 years ago Brandon Backe was pitching gems in the playoffs. I think we should try to sign two low based incentive pitchers. I just dont like the idea of losing draft picks like Phil Hughes, given Hughes is overrated because hes a Yankee. Go Astros. We'll pass on Pettitte.

rosey, you are obv a red sox fan, and i am calling you out. the most obvious reason why you are a red sox fan besides teh 270mm payroll; you have Joba in the bullpen.
Did him owning beckett make you that jealous?
