A look at the newest column from Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
- Rosenthal believes the Nick Swisher trade is a prelude to other moves for the White Sox, and shouldn't be judged in isolation.
- Darren Oliver could follow Damaso Marte and re-sign quickly, as his market value is also diminished by his Type A status.
- Texas native Kerry Wood is a good match for the Rangers, though they're not going to want to do three years at $10MM per (I think). Jim Hendry says Wood will always be welcome to come back to Chicago. Rosenthal says the Rangers also have interest in Colorado's Huston Street.
- The Cubs and the Rays are two suitors for Florida's Jeremy Hermida, though they've cleared enough payroll already to be deliberate with this one.
If the Cubs are going to persue Hermida, why not do so as a package with Gregg?? We traded a 4 star prospect that would've been much more valuable in a package deal. Oh well...

I don't think they'll go cheap for a RF. Two things:
Lou stated the Cubs were looking for a lefty #4-5 hitter. While Hermida can certainly blossom into that, I don't think a 97 win team will go into next season with Hermida batting cleanup.
Secondly, Hendry let go of Wood to free up money, indicating he needs money to "finish off the rotation" and likely to spend on a free agent RF that can bat in the middle of the lineup. The big issue is all good RF options are going to be a liability defensively (Abreu, Dunn, Ibanez, Bradley due to injury concerns more than inability to play defense)

Wood is a must for the Rangers. Those home run numbers make the 10 mil worth it, IMO.

I think the cubs still want Girles to be playing RF in April. Hes the only real option that plays good defense and hes capable of hitting leadoff. He just makes too much sense not to go after him. Pie/Cedeno/Veal should get it done. Cedeno could play 2b if they get Yunel.
The lineup could look like:
Giles
Theriot
Lee
Ramirez
Soriano
Soto
DeRosa
Kosuke/Johnson
The 3,4,5 could go in any order, but i would prefer Ramirez hitting 3 but Lou likes Lee.

Anyone else think that Milwaukee might be a good place for Wood? They need a closer, he needs a team, he's familiar with the division (duh it's the only one he's ever pitched in!) And Milwaukee has a little money to spend. Where's the problem with that?

I don't see Giles leading off if they get him...more like the 2 or 5 hole hitter.
1. Soriano
2. Theriot
3. Lee
4. Ramirez
5. Giles
6. Soto
7. DeRosa
8. Fukudome
9. Big Z (Congrats on the Silver Slugger!!!)
This isn't the lineup I'd make out...but its the one I think Lou would go with if we got Giles.

I believe it has already been established that giles won't waive his NTC... Abreu is much more likely and he's a good fit

Love the idea about Wood going to the Brewers. I wouldn't mind the Tigers going after him, but I don't think they are willing to spend the $$, will more likely go after Hoffman.

"Rosenthal believes the Nick Swisher trade is a prelude to other moves for the White Sox, and shouldn't be judged in isolation. "
The offseason shouldn't be judged 'in isolation,' but this trade can be. KW must see something in these pitchers. He was on ESPN Radio in Chicago and said that he believes Nunez is a future setup man.
Either Swisher is done or KW believes Marquez is going to be a #3 SP.
