Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star has several Royals rumors this morning...
- Dutton says the Braves appear willing to trade Jeff Francoeur. While no trade talks have taken place, it's known that Royals GM Dayton Moore is a fan. Dutton speculates that the Royals would not give up Zack Greinke for Francoeur, but may consider offering Luke Hochevar, Danny Cortes, or Mark Teahen.
- The Royals and Mariners discussed a Billy Butler for Yuniesky Betancourt trade before the '07 season, and Dutton wonders if Seattle's new GM could reignite those talks.
- Dutton says the Mark Teahen to Cleveland rumor "just won't die," despite Moore labeling it an "absolute lie" on October 27th. It may be that Teahen is on the Indians' list but no talks have occurred.
- Will the Royals offer arbitration to second baseman Mark Grudzielanek? He's a Type B free agent, so it's under consideration. The risk is that he accepts.
- Another Royals rumor from Ken Davidoff of Newsday: they've expressed an interest in bringing Raul Ibanez back to Kansas City. The Mets and Cubs are other known suitors.
- ESPN's Keith Law says the Royals would like to sign Zack Greinke to a long-term deal, but if that fails they would make him available. Greinke, 25, is under team control for two more seasons.
Francoeur for Teahan and Cortes?

If the Royals were willing to give up Teahen and Cortes in a single deal, thy could probably land someone better than Francoeur. Teahen is still a decent player, and Cortes is the best pitching prospect that system until Melville and
Montgomery get a handle on things.
I could see something like Teahen, Rosa, and a low level guy. Or maybe even something along the lines of DeJesus for Francoeur.

Francouer doesnt have that kind of value to even mention him in the same sentence as Greinke and DeJesus. Teahen + lower prospect would be more than fair

The Royals were one of the worst teams at drawing a walk in 2008. Jacobs, Francoeur, and Betancourt had a combined 92 walks last year. Plus they want to give up good young pitching for a player the Braves arguably don't want?

It says Francoeur for one of them, not two.

JRD- Braves wouldn't do Francoeur for Teahan straight up. Cortes would have to be in there.

Francoeur is no better than Teahen. Trading them Teahen + anything worthwhile would be a waste.

Francoeur had a horrible year last year. what makes you think Kansas City would give any of their top ten prospects for Francoeur? To even think they would entertain the idea of DeJesus for Francoeur one for one is laughable. If they give anything more than a Teahen and a low level pitching prospect, they're overpaying.
There is no way they get Cortes for Francoeur alone.

Francouer for Teahen? Where do I sign?
Posted by: bamabosoxfan | November 05, 2008 at 09:03 AM
CSL- Your GM did trade for Mike Jacobs. Francoeur is atop their wish list, so I have to assume that Frank Wren can squeeze a little more out of the Royals than Mark Teahan and a lower level pitching prospect. Wren won't make the move unless Cortes was involved.
And Dejesus is too much of a tweener to be considered that valueable.

Moore is jumping the shark pretty fast in KC. What's with all the low .OBP types? He says .OBP is important then he gets Jacobs and show interest in Frency. He's signing his own pink slip.

I don't know much about the three mentioned players, but none of them have very impressive stats. Franceour is no superstar, but I would imagine two of those would have to be included.
Thought: Franceour and some prospects for Greinke.

I feel confident in saying that Dayton Moore will not include the best pitching prospect in the organization for someone who failed to surpass a OBP of .300 and only hit 11 dingers.
I can get behind a solid Greinke trade, but I'd certainly hold out for Gorkys Hernandez or Jordan Schafer and Escobar along with Franceour. Minimum.

Are the Royals kidding? They wont trade Greinke but are willing to trade one of those three scrubs? Frenchy may be coming off a bad season but he will rebound. The only way I would trade Frenchy would be to get Greinke.

Are the Braves kidding? Frenchy sucks.
Teahen career OBP 332 OPS 753
Frenchy career OBP 312 OPS 746
Teahen career AB 1956
Frenchy career AB 2149
Just another over rated Braves "prospect".

Aviles & Grienke
for
Frenchy & KJ
We put Prado @ 2B, send Esco to the Padres in a deal for Peavy, and Sign Furcal to play SS...
I know I know...sounds pretty nuts right?

I would take Hochevar straight up for francoer. The Braves get a much cheaper option to strart. The guy has awesome stuff and could be put in the back of the rotation immediatley.

Really we already have a guy on the pay roll with those numbers. Jo-Jo Reyes and this guy are very similar. Why would you be willing to give up a possible bounce back player for a guy who pitches just as bad as a guy we are all very irritated with already.
