« Which Type As Will Be Offered Arbitration? | Main | C.C. Sabathia Rumors: Wednesday »
According to Jon Paul Morosi of the Detroit Free Press, the Tigers have considered pursuing free agent shortstop Alex Cora. Cora could be used in a platoon with Ramon Santiago.
Cora, 33, hit .270/.371/.349 in 179 plate appearances this year while playing a below-average shortstop. He earned $2MM.

Cora was valuable to the sox, hitting .270 and filling in at the middle infield at a cheap price was important for the redsox.

Cheap?
Mccourt would love that.
Izturis and Cora in the middle infield. Circa back to 2002.

i wonder what the sox are planning to do if we cant retain cora

Cora is a perfect back up/fill in middle infielder. He has shown the ability to put up strong OBPs as long as he can hit around .270. He is not an everyday starter, but he is a useful guy to keep around.

"i wonder what the sox are planning to do if we cant retain cora"
Willie Bloomquist, a FA from Seattle was one heard of awhile back, he plays all the infield and OF positions and would give more flexability than Cora, who is only suitable for SS and 2nd, having to go on the DL making a practice throw from 3rd working out at that position, and Cora has lost some of his range, though his hands are as steady as ever.

His name is Julio Lugo.

They should sign Orlando Cabrera...He's still good and i don't see him looking for big money.

"They should sign Orlando Cabrera...He's still good and i don't see him looking for big money."
Au contraire. While I do think that his production was hampered this year by a poor environment and misuse (Cabrera is not a lead-off man, but a perfect number 2 hitter), I don't think he will be looking for chump change. He is going to want, and get, at least $9 million a year.

"His name is Julio Lugo."
yeah right, not with that money hes making, hes either a starter for the sox or a starter for someone else

Can't see how it would be worse than Lugo. If he's cheaper than lugo, maybe cora would be better. Too bad that's a hollow .270

Cora is a worse defensive, older version of Ramon Santiago. This doesn't make sense for Detroit.

alex cora is professional hitter, comes to ball park ready for his turn to play. i know this isnt a big deal but i remember a few years ago when cora was the second baseman for the dodgers cora was voted the best 8 hole hitter in the game.
