« Marlins Sign Josh Johnson | Main | Reds Rumors: Baldelli, Hairston, Bradley, Rivera »
There's a good chance your favorite team has inquired on free agent reliever Joe Nelson. MLB.com's Joe Frisaro learned that Nelson's agent has received inquiries from 19 teams. A few teams have topped a $1MM in their offer. The known suitors: the Royals, Cardinals, Red Sox, Braves, Rays, and Mets. Nelson is hoping to sign before Christmas.
On Friday, the Marlins made the thrifty decision to non-tender Nelson, a positive development for the 34 year-old reliever. He hasn't ruled out the Marlins, but a return doesn't seem likely.

Attention small market teams. Sign this guy, use him for a few months and then trade him to a contender for a great prospect.

gut feeling is he signs with us

If this guy was left handed it would be a nice pick up for the Cards, but they have too many right handers in the pen already.

I'm sure the Giants would be interested the way they've gone after arms for the 'pen. And maybe Nelson wants to come back to the bay seeing how he's from Alameda and went to college at USF.

Joe Nelson for a "great prospect"? Good luck.

i can't believe the marlins wouldn't cough up and extra 150K to sign nelson. They thought that 650K, would be the best offer. i guess they're surprised that a guy with a 2.00era will attract attention

About time this guy gets some recognition. Glad to see Nelson's attracting interest, he more than deserves it.

Why did the Marlins let him walk? Probably because they put more faith in logic, like the fact he's been mediocre for his entire career till the age of 33, than his age 33 season while pitching in Dolphins stadium.

Since there are 19 teams, would it be fair to say that you could add him on to the Pirate's ever-growing RP wish list?

pretty tough inference skills, XCal1bur.

Looks like he had a pretty good year last year, but it could be a fluke. Either way, the Mets need another lefty reliever and he's a righty.

Joe Nelson's Splits in '08:
L/R AB BAA Runs HR BB SO
L: 97 .227 0 1 9 26
R: 107 .189 16 4 13 34
The Mets don't need need a "lefty reliever" as much as a guy who can get out left handed hitters ... and this guy gets everyone out. If you ca get him on the cheap who wouldn't want him? Oh right ... the Marlins.
