i like michaels, plays hard. liked him a lot when he played with the Indians.

everytime i hear michaels i think about the coco trade, what a lose-lose in the end for pretty much both teams, both players traded away for 75 cents on the dollar

Will he be playing thirdbase?

04forever,

why does it remind you of the coco trade?

michaels was the fielder that replaced coco crisp when he was traded to boston, in the end, them trading him to us and the indians replacing coco with michaels really didnt work out well for anyone, maybe the sox by alittle bit

I remember there was a period where he had more RBI's than hits, in the middle of the season for the Pirates. He had some big hits, but whenever he started he never did much.

i just remeber here in mass, coco was on tv alot selling merchandise and blah blah, then after his first season he really took a back seat with the team, kind of sad, you could tell the team really thought highly of him and it just never really panned out like they thought it would, excellent fielder, great speed, so-so bat.

Well Houston needed a capable 3rd baseman, so I guess this is a decent deal.

Allison Footer is mad fine.

michaels is not a 3b, he is an OF.

04forever, i understand now. indians gave him a chance to be an everyday player but he was average at best. he is a good 4th outfielder though. can get a big hit and definetly plays all out when he's in the field.

I like the move.. I think Michaels is a good bench player, ideal for a NL team on a tight budget. They should get a fair amount of value from him..

Another useless offensive player with a low OBP.

My mistake. I thought he played 3rd sometime in his career. My fault, I was wrong. Why did the astros sign him then? There is still a gapping hole at 3rd base.

Ilulic, remember the catch Michaels made opening day two years ago against Chicago, falling on his ass in the gale force winds? Unreal. But the main thing i remember about JMike is that he looks like a big duck.

IFSB, the astros don't need a third baseman. they have chris johnson who posted an awesome .600 OPS at AAA last year.

this is just what the astros need to rocket themselves to fifth place. another guy that doesn't hit much. michaels, quintero, johnson/blum, erstad, and bourn all receiving lots of at-bats. this is on top of a rotation that basically has mike hamptom as the 2nd starter, with brian moehler and brandon backe scheduled to make lots of starts.

oh well, there's always 2013.

Because they needed another bench outfielder after non-tendering Abercrombie.

lol
Chris Johnson isn't reliable starting 3rd base option.
I guess a platoon of him and Blum would be okay..
Well we'll see when Houston throws him to the dogs in Spring Training.

Furrski, i do remember that catch, how could i forget. he made a number of good catches for the indians. best part about him making a diving catch is watching his hat fall off and his slicked back hair going all over the place. anyways, he may not put up the numbers but i like him as a baseball player.

I'd also like to add that while I'm not a huge fan of Johnson (definitely not my preference for 3B), it's a little unfair to judge him based only on his AAA stats. He mashed at AA for most of '08 and had only 100 at-bats in Round Rock. He then had a very good showing in the AFL. He absolutely needs more time in AAA and might not amount to anything anyway, but let's not write him off just yet.

Chris Johnson who? The Astros, having just signed Jason Michaels, will go out and sign Doug Mientkiewicz to replace the departed Wigginton at 3rd for them, Chris Gomez to be their utility infielder, and Denny Bautista to put into their bullpen, thus becoming the 2009 version of the 2007/2008 Pittsburgh Pirates. NL Central cellar, meet the Houston Astros.

BleedinBlue, haha I remember the dismal 90's the cubs had, so don't even go there. I had such a great time seeing you guys waste a high number one pick on Corey Patterson. Thank you guys. I enjoyed the laughing stock of the Cubs through my kid years on WGN.

for the price, it's a steal for the Astros, he's a perfect 4th outfielder.

Wait...who?

IFiredScottBoras,

By the way, Alyson Footer is so-so, and would be cuter if she didn't have such a negative attitude. Now the gal that writes for the Twins, she is "mad fine".

Erin Andrews is a looker, too.
