Good for them! I'm a longtime Neyer and Law fan. Two great minds.

Its about time they reconize the internet media. These are the first net writers that I've heard get their BBWAA cards.

A day or 2 late for Jim Rice and others :(
But good to see non-traditional writers in there for a change.

It's nice to see that the dinosaurs finally came around, but it would be odd to see Neyer and Law join the BBWAA's ranks after spending so much of their careers railing against the association.

This makes me quite happy. I don't always agree with those four writers, but they will actually do some research, unlike the terribly uninformed and lazy electorate.

Heh. I didn't mean that to turn into a rant. Anyway, congrats, guys!

HAHAH! Ask Law what he thinks of Jim Rice.

wow....awesome

Well I don't mean specifics like what Law's opinion on Rice per se, but some of these beat writers from traditional print media don't have a clue about MLB history prior to TB and AZ joining the league.

Good. They're much more qualified than those scatterbrains who voted for Edinson Volquez in the Rookie of the Year race

They were only fist eligible last year right? Neyer is a great addition who always puts out a great, well researched article. Law spends far too much time talking in the annoyingly imprecise terms of "stuff" for pitches ("He has a plus plus fastball).

No Tim Dierkes? WTF

mford - Klaw has a scouting background. So his "annoyingly imprecise terms" are actually scouting terms. They are terms of art (for the attorneys out there). From memory, "plus plus" fastball velocity is consistently 95+ mph. "plus plus" movement is harder to describe.

DunkinDonuts - I was thinking the same thing. Now Klaw gets to make fun of himself (or at least an association he is part of) when dissing their picks. Should be entertaining for him and his readers, since I feel confident he will have some fun with it.

It's nice to see that the BBWAA is adding some new blood. They need to keep going, however and start depriving some of the writers of their votes because they don't have a clue as to what they're talking about.

Good for these guys! I'm glad the Internet has become a recognized medium by the BBWAA.

I'm really glad Rob Neyer got in. I want him voting for things like HOF, Cy Young, etc..

When talking about pitches, I believe Plus Plus refers to something close to an "80" pitch on the 20-80 scouting scale.

All right! About time. Congrats to these 4. I just hope there will be plenty more to come.

Joe Sheehan is my favorite over on Baseball Prospectus. I hope to see him in soon. Smart, good writer, and very well-reasoned and well-thought-out opinions.

"I'm a longtime Neyer and Law fan. Two great minds."

Ugh.

I think it's funny that two men who think so little of the BBWAA (Law big time, Neyer) are now members.

I can't wait to hear what they think of it.

Maybe we can get awards to actually mean something again.

You have to be a BBWAA member for 10 consecutive years before being eligible to vote on HOF. Here's the quote from the horrendously awful BBWAA site (http://www.baseballwriters.org/HOF_rules.html). The background is bright green, shade your eyes.

"They must have been active as baseball writers and members of the Association for a period beginning at least ten (10) years prior to the date of election in which they are voting"

A key part of this is "... and members of the Assosiaction ..."

In no way does this diminish Law's scouting or writing skills, but I just would like to say I remember in the 07 ALDS, Law was on ESPN ripping Eric Wedge a new bunghole because he was starting Paul Byrd in game 3 (or 4?) VS NYY, stating that Byrd has nothing left, and that his soft toss style would be blasted by the Bombers. Law WENT OFF on Wedge, basically said he'd lost his mind. Keith came off as a complete jerk, and as you know, Byrd shut down the Yanks in Yank stadium. In your face Law. I have'nt seen him be so aggressive and full of himself after that, maybe he learned his lesson.
