Illinois govenor Rod Blagojevich was arrested on corruption charges today. Cubs-related passage:
Blagojevich and [chief of staff John] Harris conspired to demand the firing of Chicago Tribune editorial board members responsible for editorials critical of Blagojevich in exchange for state help with the sale of Wrigley Field, the Chicago Cubs baseball stadium owned by Tribune Co.

Well the Tribune company filed for chapter 7 protection...although the Cubs and Wrigley are not subject to liquidation from the company since they are already in the process of being sold, it will be interesting to see how much money can be spent before a new owner is named.

Ugh, why can't Illinois find a decent governor? I'd love if we got one of those.
I mean, we do have that one senator who's doing pretty well right now.

at least they mentioned that he is a Democrat, even if it was only in the 6th paragraph...

"at least they mentioned that he is a Democrat, even if it was only in the 6th paragraph..."
Why does it matter? Corruption runs rampant in both parties, and all sides of the political spectrum.

I don't think this will change the amount of money that can be spent before a new owner is named. It might make Wrigley harder to sell without that back hand though, so that could play a hampering part. I don't know.

Some places (Illinois, Alaska, Louisiana) have political systems so corrupt that the party of corrupt individuals is irrelevant. To try and turn Blag's corruption into a Democratic issue is as empty as trying to turn Steven's into a Republican issue. Some people are just dicks.

"at least they mentioned that he is a Democrat, even if it was only in the 6th paragraph..."
what melonis rex said. also, the trib is historically a very republican-leaning paper. this election year is the first year they have ever publicly endorsed a democrat for president in their 100 or so years in print. end political discussion there.
to be honest, though, i'm surprised something like this didn't occur to me earlier. g-rod (as we chicagoans derisively refer to him) is a crook, a moron, and a huge cubs fan (please save the "what's the difference" jokes). he's always at games and has been sticking his nose in cubs' business for years.

A meaningless little thing I noticed earlier this year. Ernie Banks had his statue unveiled. After the speeches, the camera showed Erine walking in a line to shake hands with all the baseball and political people there. He walked right pass our dear Gov. It did not look to be an accident and kind of threw me since Erine is not a fake, upbeat guy. He is what you see. I found it interesting.
Gov. Blagojevich replaced Gov. Ryan. One Republican, one Democrat and they might be neighbors soon.

Ever heard of Ryan? The corruption in the governor's mansion is neither red nor blue...just an ugly purple. Let's not make this a party issue...or a Cubs issue. It's bad enough we have another governor embarassing our state, why does he have to muddle our beloved team in with it?

A corrupt Chicago politician... Who'd of thunk it! LOL

I can't believe that after George Ryan, the most corrupt governor in Illinois history, Blagovich has the nerve to come into office and do many of the same things. They need to share a cell together.

Heehee Bdlugz. I think "the ground" is still much higher than the rock bottom we're at right now.

Too late! Republicans beat them to it.

"Bush was the dumbest president in our lifetime"
Ummmm, let's not forget about Jimmy Carter.

I just want to point out the the democrats controlled the house and senate the last 4 years so Bush had essentially no power anyways.
