Lamb Re-Signs With Brewers

12:33pm: MLB.com's Adam McCalvy says the deal with Lamb has been finalized, with the Brewers on the hook for something close to the league minimum for '09.

TUESDAY, 10:58am: Tom Haudricourt says Lamb's signing will be announced today.  Haudricourt rejects the Rosenthal/Price report about the Lamb signing paving the way for a Hall trade.

MONDAY, 8:07pm: Rosenthal and Ed Price say the Lamb signing could prompt the Brewers to trade Bill Hall.  Hall interests the Yankees, but he has almost $16MM left on his deal.  Rosenthal notes that Yankees targets Hall and Mike Cameron are friends of C.C. Sabathia.

4:52pm: According to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy, the Brewers are "closing in on a deal to re-sign free agent third baseman Mike Lamb."  GM Doug Melvin will continue discussions with Lamb's agent later today.

Tim your a beast with all these rumors. Hopefully we get some deals by the end of the day, Laird and Everett wont cut it for a full day of the Winter Meetings.

I think the plan is pretty obvious for the Brewers in 2009: platoon Bill Hall and Mike Lamb.

Hall is a righty with a clear platoon split, and Lamb is a lefty with a clear platoon split. If they sign Lamb then I think it'd be pretty clear that a Lamb/Hall platoon would be the opening day plan for third base.

That would still leave the possibility of dealing Mike Cameron, moving Rickie Weeks to center field, and calling up Alcides Escobar to play second base.

Really wasn't sure what happened to him last year, he just fell off a cliff. I think he could be a nice signing for the Brewers and turn things back around this year, especially more in a part time role.

not so happy to see this, lamb sucks

I agree that Hall and Lamb maybe platooned, even though I would prefer to see Hall go for some more pitching and Lamb start. Bring up Gamel if things are tough. Weeks should go to AAA until he can actually hit the ball. Heck, trade him too. Escobar needs to stay in AAA. He rarely hits the ball and runs bases like a fool.

Hall won't be traded for pitching.

You couldn't get anyone to pick up that contract for free, let alone get something of any value for him.

And Weeks going to AAA...........lol.

I felt that last year Bill Hall could have been a nice pickup for the Mets. Can play a lot of different positions and be used for utility. Has pretty good power if given the AB's. I seem to feel that is not likely, though I would welcome it.

Lamb's a good 3B, he just had a rough season last year. Maybe it was the pressure of suddenly being thrown into a starting role, I don't know. He'll put up solid numbers now that he's back in the NL Central.

Smart move by the Brewers, I think (Astros bias kicking in).

How about a blockbuster trade now between the Brewers and Yankees:

Yankees get:
~Bill Hall
~Mike Cameron
~Rickie Weeks
~Prince Fielder

Brewers get:
~Melky Cabrera
~Robinson Cano
~Nick Swisher
~Ian Kennedy

One can dream, can't he?

Any way that Hall might be headed to the White Sox? I think that a change of scenery would be nice for Hall. And the Sox really need a 3B.

Sure, Bill Hall for Bobby Jenks. Sold!

Im sure bill hall could be had for a half eaten pack of big league chew!

"Yankees get:
~Bill Hall
~Mike Cameron
~Rickie Weeks
~Prince Fielder

Brewers get:
~Melky Cabrera
~Robinson Cano
~Nick Swisher
~Ian Kennedy"

I mean honestly I realize that would never happen, but it does make some sense doesn't it, especially if the Yankees take on the entire contract of Hall and it frees up the Brewers to sign Sabathia?

Bill Hall to the Dodgers makes all kinds of sense. He has a power bat and is a stellar defender at short, where the Dodgers have a hole if they don't resign Furcal. I think his problems with RHP were exaggerated last year, and he could probably be helped by a coach with Mattingley's approach.
