Why don't the Giants trade Winn for a bullpen arm and then sign Burrell and put Lewis in right?

I would hope that the Giants wouldn't trade Sanchez for Cantu, although moving him for Encarnacion wouldn't be nearly as bad a deal considering that his higher upside and age.

I think EE for Sanchez would work well for both teams, though neither he or Cantu are anything special with the glove at 3B. EE could actually probably be a excellent 1B though since most of his errors are the throwing variety. Either way the Giants have loads of pitching but very little in terms of bats I think they need to move Sanchez just to get another offensive weapon. Never good when Molina is your cleanup hitter.

Trading for EE, and having him play 1B is not such a bad idea-- Ishikawa and Sandoval can platoon at 3B (though I'm not actually sure Ishikawa can play there). EE seems to have the same potential for power as Cantu, but he can also put up a decent OBP. It'd be especially great if the Giants can somehow manage to get EE + 1 for Sanchez. A Reds rotation of Harrang, Volquez, Cueto, Sanchez, sounds kind of ridiculously good.

I'm down with a Burrell signing even with the poor defesne. He is exactly the type of hitter the Giants need. Burrell wanting to play in AT&T is all the better since it's so hard to bring in free agent bats to this park.

I don't see Sanchez being traded this year. His value is lower to the league then it is to the Giants.

I like John Sanchez. However, I don't know exactly how much the Giants are going to get for him... Cantu IMO is more appealing than EE, and could a decent defender if given time to mature at 1B. I'd rather have him over EE or Blaylock, honestly.

exactly where do they get the idea that Burrell would "love" to play for the Giants? Burrell would love an offer of somewhere as he was only speculated to have been offered 2 for 22 from the Phils. He wants a 3 year deal plus an option i expect. While he's a great OBP guy and HR hitter his defense would be horiffic in LF in AT&T Park. Unless they're thinking of first base which won't be great there either. There's a reason he was always replaced on defense by the 7th or 8th inning. He's another guy that the last year on a deal that someone is forced to offer will be something they regret.

philsWSchamps -
I agree, i'll take heat for this, but i'd prefer a 2 year deal with Giambi over a 3 year deal with Pat Burrell.

Phils, I'd guess it's because he grew up nearby in the Santa Cruz Mountains (although broadcasters usually say it was in San Jose since that's where he went to high school). That said, I would have no idea whether he actually said he wanted to play for the Giants or if it's just speculation...

kuyote,
well if those are the two options at least Burrell can play OF, as long as you let him bring his walker out onto the field. Either way I'd rather have the shorter term deal offer both of them 2 years and see which one blinks.
Jaywest05,
didn't know that. Thanks. Oh and i loved in the article how it mentioned his buddy Aaron Rowand. Don't know that they were the best of buds. Pat was known not to be best friends with everyone in the clubhouse. I don't know anything specifically but knowing both of their personalities I don't seem them going out for drinks after the game. maybe its just me.

let me throw these two trades out there:
blalock and nelson cruz for Sanchez?
blalock, guillermo moscoso and jose vallejo for sanchez?
be kind.

Chris Davis would be perfect for the Giants.. I'd give up Sanchez plus for him...

Of all the guys the Giants are rumored to be after, I like Cantu the best. He's young (26 years old), powerful (29 homers), and certainly a better clean up hitter than Bengie Molina. Yes, he may suck defensively, but just put him a first (where defense isn't as important) and let Sandoval play third (I know sandoval may not have the range for third base, but he definately has the arm).
I don't like the other guys available. Encarnacion is a .250 hitter, Blalock has injury issues and is a lefty (other than bonds, lefties don't hit homers in San Fran), and Pat Burrel is too old and I doubt he can handle first base.
I wouldn't trade Sanchez for Cantu straight up, but if the Marlins add a player to be named later, than I would make that trade.

Burrell...Giants fans need to remember that Burrell has been hitting in that "launch pad" Phillies ballpark. Take a look at his stats prior to 2008. We just cannot assume he will have big offensive numbers when playing in SF.
